England is the largest and most populous constituent country of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
Great Britain is also used as a geopolitical term describing the combination of England, Scotland, and Wales, which together comprise the entire island and some outlying islands. Great Britain, and simply Britain, are used as informal names for the sovereign state properly known as the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. Great Britain is so-called because it is the largest of the British Isles.
The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland (usually shortened to the United Kingdom, the UK, or Britain) is a country and sovereign state that is situated in west Northern Europe. Its territory and population are primarily situated on the island of Great Britain and in Northern Ireland on the island of Ireland, with additional settlements on numerous smaller islands in the surrounding seas. The United Kingdom is bounded by the Atlantic Ocean, and its ancillary bodies of water, including the North Sea, the English Channel, the Celtic Sea, and the Irish Sea. The mainland is linked to France by the Channel Tunnel and Northern Ireland shares a land border with the Republic of Ireland.
The United Kingdom is a political union made up of four constituent countries: England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland. The United Kingdom also has several overseas territories, including Bermuda, Gibraltar, Montserrat and Saint Helena among others. The dependencies of the Isle of Man and the Channel Islands, while possessions of the Crown and part of the British Isles, are not part of the United Kingdom. A constitutional monarchy, the United Kingdom is a Commonwealth Realm, sharing the same person — Queen Elizabeth II — with the fifteen other Realms as monarch and head of state.

England is called by the 3 names England, Great Britain and United Kingdom bcos people don't know the difference between the 3. Mostly people confuse Great Britain (or Britain as it is commonly known) with United Kingdom (UK)
England, Great Britain, the United Kingdom and the British Isles do not mean the same thing!
The British Isles consists of the following islands:
• Great Britain (England, Scotland and Wales)
• Ireland (the Republic of Ireland)
A country west of England across the Irish Sea (not part of the United Kingdom)
• Northern Ireland ( part of the United Kingdom)
• The Orkney and Shetland Islands
Islands off the northeast coast of Scotland
• The Isle of Man
An island in the Irish Sea
• Hebrides (including the Inner Hebrides, Outer Hebrides and Small Isles) All are islands off the northwest coast of Scotland
• The Isle of Wight
An island off the southern coast of England
• Scilly Islands
An island off the southwest coast of England
• Lundy Island
An island off the southwest coast of England
• The Channel Islands (Jersey and Guernsey)
Two Islands off the southern coast of England close to Normandy in France.
• Plus many other offshore islands
The Official name of the UK is the "United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland"
Great Britain is made up of the following countries:
England - to the south
Scotland - to the north
Wales - to the west of England
The island of Ireland across the Irish sea is divided in Northern Ireland and Southern Ireland.
Northern Ireland is a part of the UK
Southern Ireland is not. (Southern Ireland is also called Republic of Ireland, Eire, Ireland or Irish Republic)
'When people say England, they sometimes mean Great Britain, sometimes the United Kingdom, sometimes the British Isles - but never England.'
People just need to get their facts right. Its just ignorance, nothing else.

England is part of Great Britain, great Britain includes Ireland, whales, and i think Scotland. England used to be a country on its own, but then they conquered Ireland whales and (i think) Scotland so they called it Great Britain. By the way they were treating the Irish really bad. (EVIL ENGLISH GRRRRR!!!) I forgot where the name UK came from though... sry my grammer sucks.
