My 8 yr old son was standing in line to use the restroom at school. Well, someone caught the sneeze cooties & my son made an unwise decision to open his mouth in line. In the spirit of fun, my son told a boy near him to cross his fingers, feet, ears, nipples, & his arms. The boy told their teacher - which did'nt result in a phone call home, but a 1day suspension & he was also not allowed to go on a field trip they just had. Aside from a phone call home on extreme occassion, he is well behaved. He is hurt.

i;d say yes and no, it depends on the context in which it is used?. you son, being 8 probably doesnt really understand the word, and may have been using it as a joke per se, maybe he heard someone else tell it.
i think the teacher shouldnt have done that, a simply phone call would have surficed.
hope this helps :D

In the context it was used it was considered offensive. Since the boy in line considered it offensive enough to tell the teacher, and it had sexual connotations the school is most likely bound to dole out at least the minimum punishment for sexual harassment.
Of course your 8 yr. old son didn't learn about "sneeze cooties" and crossing nipples from your school.
I suggest you take a good look at your behavior at home, then apologize to your son and set some rules about what can be said at home (by anyone in your family) or at school.

Sounds to extreme to me. I don't think nipple is a bad word, but I wouldn't want my 10 year old walking around saying it, just to be saying or talking about some little girl. Does you son understand why he was punished or even what the word means? Sounds like he didn't mean anything by it. Some schools need to lighten up.

Nipples are a part of the mammal anatomy, they are also small pipe extensions used by plumbers. I, frankly, don't see what your son did was so terrible, It seems like an extreme overreaction. I would contact school authorities to get a first hand explanation and depending what is said, possibly contact the school district and file a complaint.

I would fight it, there is nothing wrong with that word. God knows there are certainly enough bad words out there without raising a fuss over that one.
as a parent, I would fight it all the way to the next school board meeting. and the news stations are always keen to hear the extremes that schools go to in their decisions. hmmm.

Oh, that's ridiculous. In the context clearly he wasn't meaning to be sexually titillating. I'd protest the suspension. Or better yet, take him out of such a repressive environment.

No fair! I don't think nipple is a bad word, besides it is part of the human body and most everybody has em.

Is elbow a bad word?? Toe, Nose? Tit might be considered slang, but teat isn't. Or do they want your kids to grow up knowing bum, instead of buttocks...pee pee for penis...boobies instead of breasts, that is sick if you ask me.
It is a body part, nothing more, nothing less...take THAT up with the school...
