I am finishing up high school and moving into my first apartment with my fiance and I am going to need a car to get to work and college and run errands... But I have to pay for all of it ( I don't have rich parents that will buy me a car for my 18th) and i have to get it soon after turning 18 and most dealers wont give financing to people with no credit so what is the best way to go about getting a used car that is at least a 2001 so i don't have problems with it breaking down on me all the time.... Any advice?

some dealers and banks have first time buyers programs. all will require a down payment of at least $1000.00. the very best way is to get a credit card and be very responsible with it. make payments for 12 mos. consistantley. Try to find a car for cheap till then. or go to a buy here/pay here place. they will charge you outrageous interest rates and you prob. won't get any credit for it on your credit report but....? too bad it's actually easier to buy a car with bad credit than with no credit. I know it stinks but that's how it is.

Just an FYI If your not looking for some hot little car and just a car to get from point a to point b. I got a brand new car for 10,000 from KIA and it's been great (this was also my first car I ever owned and I saved for a few years prior). Look for end of the year sales in end of November to December (I got mine for 4000 off!). Go to an auto mall (if you have one close by) and check out the cars. Get quotes and make them fight for your buisness. They will do this (my mom got a $30,000 for 25000, she agreed to that and after she had a dealer call her with an offer of 23000). Look in auto trader, online (I know msn has a car listing). Good luck on your first car!

Go to craigslist...... Lots of people have autos there...... Dont purchase a vehicle through a internet site while the vehicle is thousands or countless numbers of miles away! There is tons of low priced cruisers available in the market on your field should you appear..... Websites for low priced autos is a price tag to getting hosed! Buy one you'll see and experiment force!

i got both of the cars i have owned out of the autotrader. i took someone who knew tons about cars with me to purchase them, and they were both really good, reliable cars. but dont go alone, because you are a girl, and they may try to sucker you. its a sad reality, but it is a reality just the same. i have worked on many cars before, but when i had a guy with me to look at the cars, the owners didnt try anything, as they did when i didnt have a guy with me.
