Or is God just a metaphor of the cosmos?

God created all but is not our ancestor. In order for someone to be an ancestor they must be in a line of begetting, which isn't a word which we use much anymore. to beget is to produce or make an offspring of. We are not God's offspring. We are made in His likeness. That means that we are like Him but we aren't really a part of Him and yet we are at the same time. It's like if you build a statue of yourself. That statue looks like you and you are a part of it in the sense that you put your time and effort into it and it is a part of you because of the connection that you have with it from the time and effort you put into it. The statue is like you but is not actually you. It's the same way with God. He created us and put love and effort into us so He is a part of us in that sense and we are connected to Him through His love toward us, but we are not actually God. If you still have a question read C.S. Lewis' book Meer Christianity. He explains it alot better than me.

Metaphor

Neither.

Paintings are not children of painters. They are creations. We are God's creations. Therefore, God is not our ancestor. But we may inherit entry into the body of Christ and into God's family if we accept Jesus as our Savior.

That is, God is not our ancestor, he is our author. He offers us the chance to become his children, and when we accept his Son, he makes us family. It is a great and wild and unimaginable gift, being that he does not have to offer it at all. He could just as easily leave us to sit as crumbling paintings in a crumbling museum, but because he loves us, he wants us as his children. And yet we must choose to call him Father if we are to become his child. God has one child, and through this Son, Jesus, we may inherit a place in our Father's house.

God isn't our ancestor, He is our Creator. We did not 'come from' Him, He made us from dirt/dust/ground/soil & breathe His breathe of life into us (His spirit, our soul). It is our soul that is reaching out for God, our soul knows that God exists.

He is not human nor physical, thus cannot be an ancestor in those terms. He is THE CREATOR of all things.

God is not even a metaphor. It's a commonly accepted invention, devised to manipulate humanity.
