I asked this a little while ago but I want more answers....esp guys, help me out here.

I am going on a date with a guy who hasn't dated in a couple years. (The reason's not important, nuf said that it is not because he's not cute/smart/nice, etc.) Anyways, he seems very shy and nervous. What should I know about guys who haven't dated for this long? How can I make him feel more comfortable?

FYI I am not nervous about this, just looking for tips on how to make him relaaaaax. (And no guys a BJ on the way to dinner is not happening.) :o)

Talk to him, encourage him. Under no circumstances will you make fun of or laugh at any of his perceived short comings. Compliment him if he does something right (if he opens doors for you or pull the seat back for you, or if he does something considerate). Gently let him know if he does something wrong (be gentle!) And guide him on the right track if he goes off track. You need to build this guy's confidence. I don't think it'd take much time, if he starts to get the idea that you like him and approve of him. Once he starts feeling more confident and comfortable around you the shyness will be gone.

Good luck! Many great men are just unpolished gems. I wish you success in polishing this one.

Well since you won't do a bj on the way to dinner :-P ....just talk to him, take his arm and put it around your waist or whatever...you get the point. Don't come on too hard though because he'll just get uncomfortable, reassure him that you find him interesting and fun and so on...so he feels confident to keep on talking to you.

bare with him.....he's gonna want to make up for the time that he wasn't dating by wanting to move fast. by that I mean he will want to meet your family, buy you gifts, you know, stuff that couples do. By all means do not dump him for trying to take things fast!!!! Unless there is another reason to dump him, just talk with him, and show him you care!!! Thats what decent guys like to have in a relationship!!!! Over time, he will warm up to you. just stick it out with him.....

If it were me..I would talk about that right up front...and get into real good honest communication...so he knows that you are a friend and can be trusted I like Friends first....but that's me.

i've been in his shoes before with my current girlfriend and it would probably help if he asks what you want to do? just tell him don't make him guess. it will only make him more nervous.
