well, we have these things called "articles of faith" which are what we believe in. it may be a bit confusing, but this is from the prophet joseph smith himself.

1. We believe in God, the Eternal Father, and in His Son, Jesus Christ, and in the Holy Ghost.

2. We believe that men will be punished for their own sins, and not for Adam's transgression.

3. We believe that through the Atonement of Christ, all mankind may be saved, by obedience to the laws and ordinances of the Gospel.

4. We believe that the first principles and ordinances of the Gospel are: first, Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ; second, Repentance; third, Baptism by immersion for the remission of sins; fourth, Laying on of hands for the gift of the Holy Ghost.

5. We believe that a man must be called of God, by prophecy, and by the laying on of hands by those who are in authority, to preach the Gospel and administer in the ordinances thereof.

6. We believe in the same organization that existed in the Primitive Church, namely, apostles, prophets, pastors, teachers, evangelists, and so forth.

7. We believe in the gift of tongues, prophecy, revelation, visions, healing, interpretation of tongues, and so forth.

8. We believe the Bible to be the word of God as far as it is translated correctly; we also believe the Book of Mormon to be the word of God.

9. We believe all that God has revealed, all that He does now reveal, and we believe that He will yet reveal many great and important things pertaining to the Kingdom of God.

10. We believe in the literal gathering of Israel and in the restoration of the Ten Tribes; that Zion (the New Jerusalem) will be built upon the American continent; that Christ will reign personally upon the earth; and, that the earth will be renewed and receive its paradisiacal glory.

11. We claim the privilege of worshiping Almighty God according to the dictates of our own conscience, and allow all men the same privilege, let them worship how, where, or what they may.

12. We believe in being subject to kings, presidents, rulers, and magistrates, in obeying, honoring, and sustaining the law.

13. We believe in being honest, true, chaste, benevolent, virtuous, and in doing good to all men; indeed, we may say that we follow the admonition of Paul—We believe all things, we hope all things, we have endured many things, and hope to be able to endure all things. If there is anything virtuous, lovely, or of good report or praiseworthy, we seek after these things.

you may not understand them all, but if you have any more questions, the next time a mormon missionary comes to your house, ask him, he will tell you.

The Mormons believe they are the only right church on yhe earth! They have another book they teach out of which was translated into a book, called the book of Mormon. Josa Smith ,is the main person they refer to in this book. They use the book of Mormon along with the Bible. This is the only church That uses another whole book also like the Bible. They believe that after people pass that another human that is still alive can stand in for them, so they can still acept Baptisum. They believe thatif you take there leasons and don't join their church that you won't get into Heaven. On the other hand they think if you don't take the leasons here you get to have that chance when you die, wherever you go befor Heaven. They beliebe that you have to be married in the Mormon Temple and have your marrage sealed, so you can live together as a family in Heaven. Theydon't want Mormon people to date or marrie people that are not Mormon! I don't believe in the Mormon way. I believe all churches are united and if you are a christian it doesn't matter what church you attend. I don't believe that there is another book that carries the same weight as the Bible or all churches would have it and teach from it. There are other things to but this is what I know for fact is true. I relly don't think other people can do things like be Baptised for you after you pass on. Do You!

Here are some basic beliefs.

-We believe in The Father, The Son, and The Holy Ghost. We believe that they are 3 seperate beings who are 1 in purpose.

-We believe that Jesus Christ is the divine son of the Father. We look to Jesus as our Savior and redeemer from sins.

EDIT: Someone said that we do not believe that Jesus is a God. That is false. We do believe He is a God. He is a part of the Godhead.

-We believe that salvation comes by faith on the Savior and by doing good works. We are saved by faith after doing all we can do to repent of our sins. Without the Savior, salvation is not possible.

-We don't believe in sex before marriage. After marriage, we believe that the husband and wife should be completely faithful to each other.

-There are many rumors that say that Mormons practice polygamy. Mormons Do Not practice polygamy. Any member who is caught doing this is excommunicated and no longer considered a member of the church.

-We believe that families can be together forever.

-We are taught that we shouldn't drink anything with alcohol. Also taught that we shouldn't drink coffee or tea (the exception to that is herbal tea).

**There are so many other things I could type here about Mormon beliefs. I have just typed some of the basics.

There are already some good websites listed by different answerers. We believe in God the Eternal Father and that His Son, Jesus Christ, is indeed the Redeemer and Savior of the World, and His Atonement is central to everything we do. We believe in the Bible and the Book of Mormon. In general we use the King James version of the Bible, and personally I am going back to study the Jewish roots and context of the Bible so that I can understand both the Bible and the Book of Mormon better. We believe that we are children of God, and as such we have immense divine potential and talents and abilities which can be developed to become more like our Father in Heaven. We believe that women are equal in value to men, and that each gender has unique talents and roles. We believe that the Holy Ghost can influence and inspire all good people on the earth, and we believe that after baptism a member of the Church of Jesus Christ can have the gift of the Holy Ghost to be with him or her on a daily basis if you are willing to live worthy of that gift. We believe that there was an Apostasy after the original 12 Apostles of Jesus Christ were left to direct the Church following Christ's ascension to heaven, and that eventually the true authority and Priesthood of God was taken from the earth. If you've ever studied history, you might notice that there have been all kinds of confusing and dark and violent events, because Satan and his forces will try to destroy the love of God and the true authority of God. We believe that one of the greatest ways to counter those efforts of Satan is to listen to the words of a living prophet, in a succession of prophets, just as the Bible's original pattern taught. We believe that God has a living prophet today, and his name is Gordon B. Hinckley. We also believe that there are 12 Apostles today who have had a personal witness of Jesus Christ, and they hold the same keys and privileges as the 12 Apostles in the Early Church of Jesus Christ. Have a happy day.

Mormons believe in the Bible the same as any other Christian. The difference is that they also believe in a different text called The Book of Mormon in addition to the Bible. I have not read all of the Book of Mormon, but what I have read does not seem to differ from the Bible in basic moral structure.
Basically, Mormons believe that after Christ was resurected he made an appearance in North America. Some of his teachings were inscribed on some golden tablets which were lost and later found in the 1800s by Joseph Smith, I believe. Other than that, the differences between Mormons and any other denomination of Christianity are no greater than the differences, say, between the Lutherans and the Methodists.
If your son wants to know, why dont you guys just ask his grandma?

The biggest misconception in the answers thus far is about how Mormons' belief in Christ differs from mainstream Christians.

Mainstream Christians believe that believers in Jesus Christ will be saved through His grace and not by anything we can do. (Although, as it states in Romans 3: 20-31, our faith does not justify all our actions, instead it convicts us to follow the Bible.)

Mormons believe that Jesus Christ "opened" a door for us, but that we have to walk through it. Therefore, Christ's grace doesn't fully cover us. Instead, Mormons believe we are saved by our works.

This is a HUGE difference in theology. Mormons call themselves Christian, but they really belong in a different category. They're not Christian.

Mormons believe that God the Father is the all powerful and all knowing Supreme Being who created the world. Mormons regard Jesus Christ as the central figure of their faith, and the perfect example of how they should live their lives. The Holy Ghost is the third part of the Godhead. He is a separate being from God the Father, and Jesus Christ.

Mormons believe that human beings can become like gods However, this doesn't mean that human beings can grow to replace God. Mormons only worship God the Father through his son Jesus Christ.

Nor do human beings become equal to God. They remain subordinate to God even when they become exalted and like God.

They do not believe that they are the only people inspired by God and so have a tolerant attitude to other faiths... hope this helps!!!

The articles of faith which have already been listed are a good starting point.

There are many other things that people know about us. We have missionaries around the world sharing the gospel. Families are very important to us. We do not do drugs, drink, smoke, etc. We avoid innappropriate media. Our youth don't date until they are 16. We have pretty high standards and try to live them. We are service oriented. Generally, we are good people, trying to live the gospel as we understand it.

I used to be a mormon a few years ago.

They are Christians and have near enough the same beliefs as a lot of other Reglions, they do however have things like the Word of Wisdom and have to pay Tithing and the Temple plays a very important part in their lives.

If you have any specific questions let me know and I will answer them for you without any bias.

Basics of Mormonism

Are Mormons Christians as they claim? We can discover if they are by seeing if they uphold the Christian distinctives that are the essential teachings in the bible? On almost all points from the beginning of God and man in the Garden of eden to the after life they have a different view than the Holy Scriptures. They believe man is a spirit creature finding his origin in heaven before coming to earth. That Christ is also in the same class as man as well as the spirit brother of Lucifer, therefore we are all spirit brothers. They teach that we incarnate on earth to be offered a way to exaltation where we can become a God on our own planet. We then can have many wives who will birth numerous spirit children and repeat the process as all other Gods did before us.

Mormonism teaches God was first a mortal man He lived on a planet like our own and became exalted becoming a God. That God has a body just as we do. Christ is not the one God, but just one of the many exalted children of Elohim. The Trinity is made up of three main Gods with many more as well.

They also teach that there are as many Gods as there are stars and that we can become a God by obedience to the Mormon gospel. Salvation is by baptism as the gate, and then the numerous commands which includes tithing. If one does not repent in this life they have another chance in the afterlife as they are visited by spirit missionaries who will teach them the gospel. But first they are baptized by proxy (another takes their place) in the temple to have them prepared to hear it.

Jesus was conceived as Mary was visited by God the father who had sex with her and had the offspring Jesus. Jesus then was married at Cana and had many wives as a polygamist. Jesus also had many children and they believe Joseph Smith their founder is a descendant of Jesus.

The have 12 apostles in their church structure and the president of the Church is a living prophet that can speak new Scripture. So the bible continues to be made.

Mormons believe they are the only true and restored Church on earth, although lately they have opted for a softer view, it is for the purpose of making inroads into Christian Church to draw people out.

They do not believe the bible was translated correctly and so the book of Mormon was necessary to explain and teach the many things missing and corrupted. Without this translation by Joseph smith their prophet they believe the gospel would have been completely lost.
