My daughter will be 14 months old when my son is born. We are thinking we will give him the crib and move my daughter into a toddler bed. Will she be too young at that time, or should it be ok by then?

She will most likely be able to crawl out of the crib by then anyway so a regular bed on the floor is fine. Toddler beds are a waste of money as they are only really suitable for a year or 2 and are expensive.

14 months is not too young at all. Most of the kids I know, including my own were climbing out of the crib by 12 months old. I know 4-5 kids that climbed out at 10 -11 months.

Honestly, I thought the same thing you did, but the sad reality is that my 19 month old loved her crib too much and is still in it at age 2.

I had my son in May and we thought we could get her moved over while he stayed in our room because I was breastfeeding. Well, he is in a travel yard in our room and has been for the past 5 months.

We have tried to get her into a toddler bed. It is in the room and has a new sheet set on it with butterflies. She plays on it, but doesn't want to sleep on it.

One pediatrician that I spoke to said he just took his kids crib out of the room and put in a twin bed with rails and that was it. They slept on the big bed.

The problem is, my kids will have to share the room, so the crib will be there.

The best thing is to get the older child into the toddler bed a few months before the baby is born. That way they don't get jealous.

I'm still trying to figure it out. My mother has suggested that I just buy another crib and have them both in their own. It is convenient to have the 2 year old in her crib. I don't have to worry about her getting up in the middle of the night and playing with her toys, or wandering around the house.

I didn't bother with a toddler bed, I didn't want to transition my daughter twice. We just put bed rails on her queen size bed and never had a problem. 14 months seems a little young though, my daughter was 2 when we moved her from the crib. Maybe you could keep the baby in a bassinet for a couple of months until your daughter gets a little older. But hey, you do what you need to.

My first born was 20 months when he went into a toddler bed and my second born is almost two and he is still in a crib. We waited for my first son to be too big for the crib before we moved him. Its really up to them. I think 14 months is too young but your the mom its up to you to tell if your daughter is ready. Good luck.

What ever you decide to do, do it before the baby is born. My girls are 15 months apart. Having two little ones is hard but trying to convince the older one to give something up for the baby is really hard.
I kept my older one in her crib until she could climb out it because I didn't want her wandering around the house when I was sleeping. My youngest is 2. We will keep her in her crib as long as possible. She hasn't tried to climb out yet so there is no danger. I think she will be waking us up frequently once she has a toddler bed.

A good time to move them to a toddler bed is when they start trying to climb out (usually around the time they start walking). I think it would be fine to keep her in it for another month or two, but she is getting to that age where she needs a toddler bed. Good luck and congrats on your new little guy :-)

I have always heard that the child needs to be able to climb in and out of the bed without help. That is how to determine when you should let them in the toddler bed. That is what we did with our girls, and it worked out great!

We did at 9 months. Well, we went to a mattress on the floor. Sooo much easier. Slept 100x better. Skiped the toddler bed, went to a real bed at 19 months, which she still adores.
