That doesn't sound like hard to get - that sounds like immature, insecure pissiness because you didn't jump up and answer the phone when you wanted them to and now he's throwing a fit.

Anytime I have had a guy who plays hard to get he either
A) REALLY is in to you OR
B) Is unsure if he is into you
C) has others he is dating and you are not a priority.
I prefer that guys are just upfront and honest and in communication..I hate games. However there is nothing wrong with a little back & forth so when you do win (goes either way) that you feel like you won a prize (I hope you know what I mean) LOL :)

Men play hard to get I guess for same reason women play hard to get. As a guy I could state the same question you did going the other way. Maybe someone knows the answer for both of us or maybe its just human nature.

Have you thought that he might not be playing hard to get rather he is just an inconsiderate ***?
Oh and anjelkake your full of BS. You probably go for those insecure little boys ;P try a real man and I doubt he would come to you beck and call..in fact I'm willing to bet you would :))

It depends on how he views you/your liaison, which is affected by a multitude of variables.
Does he see you as long term fixture or just a quick fling ("my girlfriend" or "just a friend")?
Does he flirt with your friends?
What's his background?
Is he a commitment-phobe, a serial cheater?
Is he controlling? (Its my way or the highway?)
Does he take on board any issues you may have?
Is he a passive-aggressive, subtly playing on your emotions (controlling you by being available one minute and ignoring you the next) ?
Who is his ideal woman and do you fit the mould?
More important, how does he view women (equals or playthings)?
It could be that he's just biding time until someone "better" comes along, or that he just very wary of allowing you to get close to him in case you dump him.
Either way, your instincts are usually right, and you should take them notice of them.
