I was reading this book on diets and I've read this. I like eating grapefruit but I don't think they will make me any skinier.
*And to all of those wondering I'm 52 kilos or about 8 stones !

No they help you lose weight
1. Because they have a substance in them that helps to naturally curb hunger
2. They are a low calorie high nutrition food that has fiber and will help give you a fuller feeling.

It takes more calories to eat a grapefruit than a grapefruit contains, hence you lose weight. The "stuff" it has in it is also fat burning..so it's a win win situation x x x

not by a long shot -- Nor do they speed up your metabolism

Less calories, more activity and addition of lean body mass (muscle) help you lose weight and speed up your metabolism. 1 pound of muscle burns 40 calories metabolically vs. 3 for fat. There is no food that will "speed up your metabolism" enough for it to make any significant difference

Perhaps instead of reading a "diet" book, you should read a good book on basic nutrition - or the new USRDA guidelines for proper nutrition (i have included the link below)

If you eat citrus fruit after a greasy meal, it emulsifies the fat and you don;t digest as much of it.

I lost 10 kilos in 10 weeks and I ate chipe every lunch time. I was exercising for 4 hours a day. I was in the Army in the Falklands in '93

Apparently if you have a grapefruit before each meal then you do lose weight quicker (according to a recent test) It's also high-fibre so is good for you as well.

Not really, you have to use lemons with warm warmer, preferably right after every meal. This breaks down the fat in the food you eat. Grapefruit doesn't do anything at all.

No.

The only way they help is by being a low fat snack. Unfortunately they have no magical weight loss powers. It was just another fad diet that was around for a while.
