Kerry Packer, from Australia owns one. The Sultan Of Brunei owns two. Nicky Oppenheimer, from South Africa also owns one.
In the U.S., Armand Hammer used to own one, back in the 1970's, and it was the only Western aircraft granted permission to fly over the former soviet union at any time.
Sorry folks, John Travolta has a 707, a Gulfstream II and a Learjet 36 among others, not a 727 or a 747. Donald Trump has an MD 80, not a 747; Air force One cannot be considered a private aircraft, since the owner is the U.S. Government, as some 747's used by several middle eastern royal families are owned by their governments too. And I'm not acquainted with Mr. Hunt's grandfather, although it seems to me almost idiotic to go around saying "my dad" or "grandad" has one.
There has to be a significant number of them, since Boeing has sold over 100 Boeing Business Jets in the last ten years, a specially fitted 737, and prior to that it was not such an unusual for those who can afford it to buy a 727 or a 737 and turn it into flying headquarters. Airbus Industrie has also built some 60 A 320's in a private plane configuration.
And for the lovey lady who claims that nobody owns one, honey, corporations are the way to own things and minimize the tax impact, so on the end, you can own whatever you may want, without any hassles, after all, corporations have owners too, and most stockholders are nothing more than finance.

John Travolta actually owns a 707 which has four engines but is not a 747. There is a Middle East oil billionaire who owns a 747 private jet it has been modified and is a shorter version of the 747 you would be used to seeing. I've seen this plane a few times because it is brought to the maintenance facility that I use to work at for it's inspections. Super Nice!!!

John Travolta actually doesn't own a 707 or a 747 but be does own a 727 just like our family friend. He told us that he bought the aircraft for a little over 17 million dollars. When he flies to New York it cost him 25,000 dollars to just fill up the tank and that's going one way.

I doubt any one person owns one that can fly. Most aircraft that size are owned by corporations or governments. With a price tag of over a million dollars for a new aircraft, it just isn't affordable.
Someone mentioned the President. The jets used as Air Force One (there's two or three of them) are owned by the government. They mentioned Bill Gates. His jet is owned by Microsoft. John Travolta also has a corporation to manage his affairs and any aircraft he has are undoubtably owned by the corporation due to the tax advantages.

I've got one in the back yard but I don't use it much because the take-offs and landing are a bit rough on my 200 foot runway!
