It's simple

Your reality of the world, your view of the world is defined by what what you know, have learned about it.

For example, what you know about a third world country, your reality of it, is based on what you've been presented on it by the media, the news, the net... it is very different then the reality of someone who lives in a third world country. And vice verca.

We only accept the things we are presented. You can't accept the "reality" of something if it isn't presented or known. Which pretty much means we believe what we see.

We perceive what we know as being real, or rather, as being what is. And therefore we are made complacent within the confines of familiarity; why should we care about stopping war or ending hunger when these things have always been part of what we know to be the real world? So perhaps we are not always happy with what is, but neither are we moved to action.

We accept the world for what we see it as instead of what it should be or really is. For example: if we only see the bad of others, then we tend to look for anything negative. On the contrary if we only see good in others, we are blind to the bad things they may be doing.
