On its fanny, it looks like ticking..It could just be the picture..but, if it is freckled, ( or roan) your dog would be considered a red ticked..

If the puppy is registered AKC, send a few side, front and rear pictures to them and let them decide.
They have their own version of colors, and what ever you choose will be incorrect anyway.
I agree with Cheto on the red ticking though.

Interesting.....so would my dog also be considered pied if she were a beagle, seeing as the black and tan blend in together instead of having clear lines?

Her hairs do seem to be banded in color.......however as a basset she is simply referred to as tricolor.

My husband, who is a rabbit hunter and has several beagles, would call that dog's color, lemon and white. It is a beautiful beagle, you don't see many that color. If it were a little more darker towards a brownish color, he would call it liver and white.
