I am a certified medical lab tech. with a four year degree and a supervisor label. I probably spent as much time in a classroom as most doctors, with all due respect to them, they went much further.
Any and all body fluids that come into the lab, all diseases, viruses and etc that come in here go through various aspects of research and or breaking down to learn what they are composed of and what they are doing in the human body, the harm they do, the good they do.
A doctor may order a test that requires body fluids taken and tested to see what type of antibiotic or anti virus can be used to fight it to cure.
There are many other aspects to the title Lab Med Tech. breaking down the elements for further research and study IE.

It takes a great amount of scientific thinking, math, chemistry, etc. Good grades throughout school is a must and a lot of concentration. Good luck on any endeavors.
