I broke a mercury thermometer and one of my 2 dogs swallowed the liquid mercury that came out of the tip. Do I have to worry? Some web sites say it is OK, some websites say it is toxic and needs to be treated.

If it is just a little bit you should be okay. Call a vet-they will usually just tell you if you need to bring the dog in.

It is toxic but I think it cannot be treated, Mercury goes into the bloodstream and settles in the brain. See a vet to be sure.

I know its very toxic for humans so I would think its toxic for them as well and I guess it really depends on the amount they had. I would try to get them to drink alot of water and be watchful for any possible health effects.
