My friends daughter is tired of the fight. Any ideas?

Thank you for all your answers. She has tried several avenues. The pill she is on is quite mild. I am aware of all the natural things, however, she is the parent, it is her choise. Just needing ideas on how my friend can get her to take the pill.

i personally am ADHD and medicated so i know what your friends daughter's point of view is like. it is not always easy to take a pill. Possibly do what they do to dogs and other animals; wrap it is candy or a favorite food and give it to them. worst case scenario, she finds out what it really is. dont force the kid to take the pill either, this will only make it worse. Possibly see a psychiatrist (the one that prescribes the meds) to see if they have any suggestions.

I know you have probably heard this a million times, but is your friend sure that the child NEEDS drugs? There are many healthy ways to address behavior problems with children that do not involve drugs. My friend has a son that was considered ADHD and she change his diet completely and has had remarkable results...She took all the sugar out of his diet...no fruit juices, no candy, no sugary cereals, whole grain breads, she was cautious about the fruit she gave him and she started with a good multi vitamin. Not to mention a strict schedule from morning to night ...and you would never know it was the same boy a couple of months later. I think they lable high energy kids today ADHD like they did in the 60's as "hyper activitie"...so instead of dealing with diet and actually teaching them/spending time with them they prefer to take the easy way of drugs...and who knows what the drugs will do to them 20 years down the road...Good luck.

Do the whole treat thing. When she takes the medicene give her a treat like a small bag of m&m or something like that. If that doesn't work start taking away privilages, when she takes her pill give a privilage back, pretty soon it'll become habit for her and she won't have to fight her as much or hopefully at all. Hope I helped!

Personally I don't believe in ADHD. I think most people can't get their kids to listen to them or behave because of their parenting. I have never and will never fight with my 6 year old about taking any medication or anything at all. And I don't spank him. People are too easy going with kids and try to reason with them instead of parenting them. You don't negotiate with a child. You instruct and guide them. They don't have options when you tell them to do something. But people give their kids options and hence, have a child who won't listen or throws fits. Then doctors want to call it a disorder and give the child medication. These kids aren't sick, they need discipline and good solid parenting, and they don't have to be hit to get it.

People don't realize the danger of drugging their kids i guess. My son was also diagnosed with ADHD. There are natural ways to help children. Sorry, I just don't believe it is a good thing.

What pill is she on? If she's taking adderall, you can open it up and sprinkle the medicine on a spoonful of applesauce or pudding.. If it concerta or another brand that can't be opened, you could still have her swallow in in a spoonful of applesauce..

its hard with kids to get them to take a pill. see your docter and ask if you can switch from a pill to a liquid. tell her if she takes the liquid she gets a peice of chocolate or something like that.
if you can't get a liquid, try crushing the pill up at putting it in applesauce. if she doesn't like the taste of regular applesauce, try putting cinnamon on top. yummy!
good luck!

You know in real life that people will actually spike your drink sometimes? Do it to her, just put it in some stuff, some food etc, or drinks, make sure it will over power the drug flavour.
