It hasn't worked that well for the Mormons or other groups that have tried it. Think about King David or Abraham, Sarah and Hagar. The more people you add the more problems you have.

This idea may cut the divorce rate, but will it really solve the basic problems in marriages? All this will do is to allow people to have several partners. It won't improve the communication between the partners to make the marriage more secure.
The divorce rate is just the sign that people need to learn how to work together to make the marriage succeed.

It would seem that any standard set by nature creates more peace and harmony in human relations than whatever humans find to replace those standards. So to answer q? #1 yes, men and women would be happier if men had multiple wives. and q? #2 No, people would not be happier if women had multiple husbands. But none-the-less people will always try to "one up" God so the q? is probably irrelevant in the end.

I'm not going to assume thata everyone in that area is a Chirstian, it's just too obvious. But what I will say is that there are a lot of churches preachiing the message of bondage, and this is just a little bit of what happens with that kind of message. It might sound like the Gospel, but it's works based and has been called hypocrisy all the way back to the First Century. He began to say to His disciples first of all, “Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy.

Nope. The people that cheat would soon get bored of such an arrangement and want to cheat on it.
