Well its a mental illness which effects people by distorting their perception of them selves in an irrational manner. This starts off with people feeling low about themselves and of course magazines and TV doesn't help by placing an image into peoples minds of what they should look like!! These thoughts become irrational and obsessive and it becomes a matter of control! If they feel that they cant control their life they know they can control their weight! U could argue celebs are to blame but at the end of the day its a mental illness that goes deeper than that.

I have anorxia and bulimia so I can offer my take on it?

My past had alot to do with it- focusing alot on society as my family really wasnt very warming to each other and I dont think anyone really wanted to be a part of it. My 14 year old sister chose to have an affair with a 31 year old married man to escape, my dad chose his work, my mum chose the gym and I chose to loose weight.

I wont lie, I wanted to look like kate moss, jodie kidd and any other popular super model, but this was because I wanted to be accepted by the world/a society with magazines like heat who have a field day when some one eats somethng- posting it on front covers to show "the shame" of it. I wanted -and still want, to be part of something, and if I need to be skinny to be admired- it feels way better than beign fat and repelled which is how I felt when I started the "diet".

No-one is to blame! Is it someones fault that there is cancer in the world?

This is a serious disease that I hate to see labelled as a media reaction problem.

Anorexia is a very debilitating disease that comes from within. It is fed by the media allowing the "perfect' body, but to true sufferers of this disease it is much more than that.

I think there are 2 types of anorexic/bulimia's: the first group are those who just want to be something they aren't and want attention and so look to magazines as their excuse.

The others are genuine and will will never fulfill any idea of perfection.

I would like to talk to any other genuine sufferers out there : please contact me via Yahoo

Anorexia is a mental illness, it usually is about a control issue.someone that becomes anorexic has no control over their life but they do over their bodies. These people usually have low self esteem. So several people are to blame the people that try to totally dominate a person and the person that has it that has allowed this to happen to them

Unhealthy celebs like Nicole Ritchie set a bad example, and other people who have an 'ideal' of the world on the TV where everyone has to eat fruit + veg ALL THE TIME it put the wrong message out to people, junk food is OK as long as it's not all the time.

Anorexia is a mental health problem whereby a person is punitive to themselves and denies themselves food. It is not all to do with skinny models.
