Such as!

Everyone wants to attribute the beauty of the Earth, mountains, flowers, the smell of grass during spring, etc to God - yet when a tornado or a hurricane comes to town and kills several hundred people we don't attribute that to God.

Oh? What about an Act of God? (Tornado, earthquake, fire, hurricane) Nothing positive about that!

This is a very overgeneralized question. It would help if you would define what you mean by "positive" and "negative."

There are many things that occur in my life that would appear as negative to those who did not have a relationship with God. I endure God's justice, which some may refer to as "the heavy hand of God"--and I attribute it to God's perfection and mercy. Going through it is difficult and sometimes causes pain, but it is all good, i.e., positive. Again, those who are outside of God's grace would probably perceive it as negative.

But a simpler answer to your question is that God never sinned and will never sin, and much of what we endure is the result of sin. This is the stuff that many are referring to--many such as yourself, it would seem--when mentioning "negative" things. The answer is that sin is not attributable to God. Very simple. Sin is attributable to God's enemy and to those human beings who wittingly or unwittingly believe the great deceiver and fall prey to his deceptions.

God's justice is--among other things--the process of bringing sinners to account for having believed the great deceiver. Working out one's salvation is rigorous, strenuous, and not for the feint of heart, as it can feel "bad." But all the while I, at least, know that it is God's goodness that permits me to endure his justice.

Well, one explanation might be there is the goodness of God, and those of us who believe in God all want to believe that God is good even in the midst of a crazy world with crazy goings on. But, then, there are the places in scripture where it points out things like we behold the goodness and the severity of God. Many of us are still grappling with the severity part...

Those of us who know Him, really know Him, seek Him, research His Word, etc., know and understand that He is good, and He is holy, He is righteous, and He is just in all that He says and does.

But then there are those things that nag at us like, "Why did He let this thing happen or that thing happen when I was walking in obedience?" Do I believe He is the cause behind every bad thing that happens? No. Not at all. He is good through-and-through, and, therefore, He only has good things to give. And I've come to trust what the Word of God says - that He will not allow me to be tested above what I'm able but will make a way of escape. I've come to find out that when the trouble comes, He gives me strength to resist going down the road to destruction. If I don't turn to Him in trouble then I have forsaken where my help comes from. I'm learning that it's better to just trust instead of question "why this thing or that thing has happened." This is what He has been telling us in His Word all along - to trust Him instead of questioning the circumstances - but we have been slow to hearken.

When I put my trust in Him, no matter how bad the situation gets, I come out the other side marvelling at His faithfulness. If I take to questioning why this thing or that thing happens, then guess what. The trial will end. And I will have failed to learn what I was supposed to have learned, and He will have to start over with me preparing me to trust Him the next go-round. After nearly 13 years of walking with God I'm finally learning to just throw up my hands in surrender to God saying, "I can't fix this, but You can. I put my trust in You now." How many times did I have to around a particular trial mountain before I finally started at least figuring out how to get it right? It would be too embarrassing to tell. But the good thing is that as long as I'm still breathing there's still hope for me in getting it right!
