Outstanding firearm.
There are all kinds of accessories for that little gun, too.
BTW, if you have any reliablity issues, Federal makes a round called the EFMJ, or expanding full metal jacket. Takes out all the issues with reliablity and self defense ammo. Never fails, and has Federal's reputation behind it. Good stuff...

Great question. I would bough a M1911, but the XD is cool. It's not exactly a carry pistol, but it doesn't sound like you do a lot of that. Personally, i prefer a single action auto, but whatever.
I agree with the others you should be very happy with your purchase.
In addition, expect to see a lot of accessories on the market for the XD both presently and in the future.
Shoot on, Brother!!
Make sure you know how to break it down, clean it and put it back together before you put a lot, if any rounds through it. Oh, and he means it when he means it is designed to shot hardball ammo only. Consider "throating" the barrel if you want to shoot hollows.

The 9mm XDM would be the best choice over all. Plenty enough power to use for personal or home defense, and fun to shoot. Also the ammo is cheaper. The 45 would be my next choice. It will have a little more power, but will not be as rough on your hand as the 40. There is nothing wrong with a 40 cal. (I have 2), but there is not enough gain in a 40 to make up for the extra recoil.

I have a XD 9mm. And it's GREAT! I have never had any problems with it since I bought it. I shot more than a thousand rounds through it and not one problem or complaint from me. I Love it. I have the five inch barrel and it's very accurate. I even shoot IDPA matches with it. I love the feature it has and accessory availability.

The XT tactical is an awesome sidearm. functions great only problem ive had is one jammed round not bad considering ive pumped about 500 through it already. Great choice but like stated earlier researching first might have been wise.

Congrats--You bought a nice piece.I have several 1911's.The only problems most people have with these pistols is thier tendency to jam when shooting hollowpoints.Rember, they were designed to shoot hardball ammo.Does yours have a polished feed ramp? That usually takes care of feed problems.

Just my opinion, but it seems to me you should have done your research BEFORE purchase. You got lucky on this one tho, they are a great pistol, accurate and dependable.I work as a range safety officer and have seen about 20 of these pistols on my firing line, they all seem to be a flawless shooter.
