I suggest you get your parents to a doctor or emergency room pronto. There are drugs they can take to help them break their addictions. Going off any drug, prescription or not is dangerous and should be done under medical supervision. Your parents need mental counseling too to help them understand their addictions and how to stay drug free.

It might have been better to decrease the dosage more gradually over a period of ten days. The symptoms they are displaying are normal withdrawal symptoms.Although unpleasant, withdrawal from narcotics is rarely life threatening and when it has been, it is usually due to the stress that has been place on the body by the withdrawal symptoms and not because any of these symptoms are life threatening. However, because the ability to withstand pain is diminished with the use of narcotics, the person withdrawing may feel as though they are going to die. I dont know of any herbal remedie's but they aren't going to die. It's very hard for addicted persons to realize they have a problem and to "quit cold turkey" I give your parents credit for doing this.

However L-Glutamine helps increase the levels of GABA in the brain, which has a calming effect.Essential Fatty Acids help reverse the effects of malnutrition related to drug addiction.Calcium and Magnesium help nourish the central nervous system and calm the body.Gamma Amino Butyric Acid (GABA) may help relaxation and reduce cravings.L-Phenylalanine may assist with withdrawal symptoms. But you have to remember that the FDA does not regulate herbal remedies and there for they are not proven to work. Also drink plenty of water to flush drug toxins from the body and avoid eating large amounts of processed foods and sugars as they may increase drug cravings

I know someone who went thru this not too long ago..he was addicted to hydrocodone; he took it b/cuz of an injury, but as you know it is highly addictive...there is nothing that can replace it, but he went to the Emergency Room & they gave him blood pressure pills. They said that taking pain killlers actually slows your breathing & heart rate, so when you stop, it speeds back up which could potentially be dangerous. Other than that, they said quitting pain killers cold turkey can work, it's just obviously very difficult. The blood pressure medicine also helped him sleep, which made the withdrawls easier. Good luck to them; **also, if the only reason they are taking them is because of the way it makes them feel, you could tell their doctor, and he or she will probably cut them off, or help them safely wean off of them, which would take 100% willpower. If they can make it cold turkey, it would be best b/cuz the temptation isn't right there in their face. Good luck again...I feel your pain.

Likely they need space and time, if rehab isn't an option for them. (Which would be the best thing.) Many people won't go through the humiliation of rehab though, even to save their own lives. If they need you to be there while they shake and sweat it off, ok. If they need to be alone, give them that too. Try not to let them go get more drugs. Give them time. They will likely always want more, but the feeling will de-intensify.

I'm not sure if this helps, but there is an herbal tea brand I just discovered that uses medicinal-grade herbs... the brand is called Traditional Medicinals. I just bought a seasonal cold package with four treatment-specific teas in it. I don't usually buy into this stuff, but I think it helped me, cold-wise... maybe you can find something that will make them feel better for the withdrawl period.

they are going through withdraws.... and that is the only way to go... it won't last much longer, but they need to go through it to kick the habit... you can put them in a facility, but it would be the same thing without the comforts of their home and own bed... I would suggest you just be there for them and help them through it.. you can't give them anything... and don't let them take anymore pills no matter what.. it usually is pretty bad for a week, but they will get through it
