the easyest way to remove windows xp is to format the partition on whitch is installed. just place the windows 98 boot cdrom into the cdrom drive, choose start computer with cdrom support, and when the command prompt appears, enter FDISK. find your partition where the XP is installed , delete it, reboot the computer and after reboot, repeat the whole thing again, but in fdisk choose create primary partition. reboot again (yes, this is the way unfortunately) , boot from cdrom, and now type format c: or the drive you've just create it. now you can setup win98. go to the cdrom drive, if it's F then type f:\win98 setup /is /ie /nr , these switches will skip a lot of checks (memory, scandisk, bootdisk)
if u have some important things on the windows xp partition, then restart your computer and start the xp in safe mode. log in with the administrator user, and copy all of your programs, documents to another partition or another hard or dvd.... blabla . when your ready, install win98 and do those steps i've told u. this is the way i'm always doing it.....
good luck

if u want a fresh install, set the PC to boot from the CD Drive. Put the Windows XP CD into the drive and restart the machine. Then Follow the prompts or instructions If you want to keep both windows 98 and Windows XP then Start ur PC. After Win98 loads up, put the Windows XP in the CD Drive. The Installation will start automatically if it doesnot open the CD Drive Folder and click on setup. Then follow the prompts or instrucions. You can also install a fresh copy using this method

To do that, just put the Windows 98 disc in the hard drive to install it. When it comes to it, it will ask you about formatting your disc drive, and go ahead and do that and it will wipe out the Windows XP and install the Windows 98. Simple as that.

There are free utility programs that let you recover or reset a forgotten password in Windows XP or NT. But if you really want to start fresh, just use your system recovery CD to reformat and reinstall Windows XP. There's no point in going back to an eight year old OS that's no longer supported by Microsoft.

booy up your computer from the 98 disc and overwrite XP by installing 98. Watch for viruses, it's not a very smart move.

boot from your win 98 disc and delete the partition that has xp installed on it. be careful if you decide to do this, because you will loose most of your device drivers when doing so. They are easy to recover if you know how, or if you have a disc with your drivers already on there.

The only way you can really revert to an older operating system is to completely wipe out the hard drive (by using fdisk, for instance), and install whatever OS you want. I wouldn't do this just because you forgot your uname/password, though. There are ways you can get around that.

I wouldn't go back to 98. There are applications you can use to get past the usernme and password, and next time don't use password if you can't remember it.

Go to Control Panel and click on Add/Remove programs.
If the XP installed on your computer, in this time you buy it, I guess you can't uninstalled that. But try.
