Your friend has skin lice. Please refrain from having skin contact with your friend because it is highly contagious. I hope your friend is being treated already because scabies gives a person unbearable itch and rash which could spread all over the body. She/he needs to burn or discard the beddings and clothes that he/she wore when he/she wasnt treated yet because the lice can still be there. She needs also to use paper towels instead of the regular towels when she wipes herself after bathing because the lice can dwell in the towel and may spread to other people. If it is possible isolate her so she wont contaminate others. The medications for scabies are very effective so it is easy to get well from scabies. Just go to a GP or any doctor near you and they'll prescribe you the appropriate medication.

Good day!

Scabies are mites that burrow into the skin, they itch and cause what looks like a rash. You can get them by having contact with someone who has them, you'll see them more often in nursing homes, prisons, etc. A prescription lotion is used to treat it, and you must wash all linens using soap and hot water, and give the house a thorough cleaning.

Note: Scabies (mite) and body lice (insect) are two different bugs, not at all the same thing.
Also, getting scabies doesn't mean you're unclean, just that you've had contact with someone that has it.

Scabies are little mites that you get from direct skin to skin contact. The little itchy bumps they make are from when they lay their eggs in your skin. The only way I know of to get rid of them is to go to a Dermatologist and have them check you out. They will proscribe an all-over cream that you must apply on every skin surface from the neck down (except genitals), and then you have to wash your bedsheets every day for a couple of days, and only wear freshly laundered clothes. If you are close to your friend, you should get treated too, otherwise you could pass them pack and forth. All in all, it's a pretty nasty affair. Blech! Yes, I had them....I am susceptible to getting infected as I am a massage therapist and am in close skin contact with many different people a week! The cream stuff is disgusting toxic, but better than those little buggers living in your skin.
Best of luck,

Scabies is a disease caused by Sarcoptes scabiei, the human itch mite.

The mite is transmitted by close contact with infected humans or animals, contaminated bedding, towels and clothing, etc.

To get rid of them, there are OTC products available. At my hospital we use Kwell (lindane). The directions must be followed exactly!! All contaminated bedding, etc. must be washed separately in hot water.

FYI: Scabies isn't caused by body lice.

Scabies is body lice. They typically will live in your clothes and then move to your body to feed basically.

You have to wash EVERYTHING. I'm talking about clothes, bedsheets, spray down your couches, etc. Wash everything in warm-hot water. Spray down the bed and couches. Stuffed animals need to be packed up for awhile. The reason you have to wash everything is because not only do they live in your clothes but they will lay their eggs there. So even if you think you have gotten rid of them, in another few weeks they may come back.

You also need a special medicine to wash with.

This is very contagious. You don't even need direct contact with a person that is infected. All they have to do is sit on your couch and if you sit down after them the lice may have jumped from them, to the couch, and now to you.

Seeing a doctor would be best but any Walgreens or Pharmacy will have the necessary products as well.

RUN! They're highly contagious. They are a skin lice. I think you can see a doctor and they prescribe a very powerful topical cream.
