I wanted to buy Paul Newman's Caesar Salad Dressing. It said it had white wine vinegar in it. I asked a few people and they said that meant white wine was fermented/distilled/whatever to make this vinegar. I asked Newmansown and they said it doesn't.
I don't drink alcohol. So I only want it if it hasn't go alcohol in. It's the best one on the market and I know you're thinking get a life it's only dressing but it will make a big difference to my cooking.
So does red wine vinegar have red wine (alcohol) in it?
White wine vinegar have white wine in it?
I looked on their website and the ingredients say only 'distilled vinegar' and I bought one from Morrisons and that said White Wine Vinegar for the Caesar Dressing and Red Wine for the Italian.

So all vinegar has wine in it? I shouldn't drink alcohol so have I been drinking it all this time? I asked alot of people and they said Vinegar doesn't have any alcohol in it because a) it should say contains alcohol and b) it always says in brackets how much it has in it.

According to wikipedia, vinegar has alchohol in it, but keep in mind if you are cooking, the alcohol will burn off, and you will not be consuming any alcohol. If it is that big of a concern, check islamic food stores. Muslims are forbidden to drink alcohol, so they may have a non-alc. version that would be a good substitute:
Vinegar is a food produced by the fermentation of alcohol into acetic acid and other fermentation by-products. The acetic acid concentration ranges typically from 4 to 8 percent by volume for table vinegar [1] (typically 5%) and higher concentrations for pickling (up to 18%) although in some countries the minimum strength may be less. Natural vinegars also contain smaller amounts of tartaric acid, citric acid, and other acids. It has been used since ancient times, and is an important element in Western and European, Asian, and other traditional cuisines of the world.
The pH of vinegar is typically in the range 2- 3.5 while commercially available vinegar is usually about 2.4 but the pH level will vary depending on the concentration of acetic acid.
The word "vinegar" derives from the Old French vin aigre, meaning "sour wine." Louis Pasteur showed in 1864 that vinegar results from a natural fermentation process.

Wine vinegar
Originally the French word vinaigre, from which we get our word vinegar, meant sour wine, but now it embraces all similar liquids where alcohol is turned into acetic acid. As you might expect, wine vinegar comes either red or white, and the best quality is that made by the Orléans method, which, because of its long, slow fermentation in oak casks, has depth of flavour without the overpowering acidity.

you can also get cider vinegar
but yes vinegar be it red wine, white wine or cider vinegar are al made from alcohol though the amounts in it would be very low as alcohol evaporates at about 70 degrees celcius 30 before water and to make the water amongst other things the alcohol is boiled

It doesn't have actual wine in it. Vinegar is made from alcohol that's "gone-off" White wine vinegar is made from off white wine, red wine vinegar from off red wine.
Alcohol changes to vinegar when you leave it for a while. That's why, if you did drink, when you taste wine that's been sitting for a few days it tastes acidic.
