Is that considered to be bullying or a case for unfair treatment?

Also if a member of the Landlord's family threatens a staff member with violence and the Landlord either doesn't do anything about it or victimises the staff member is that unfair treatment?

I'm not talking about a Landlord who owns the pub himself but one who is employed by a brewery to manage one of their houses.

The person who is being victimised (not me thankfully) is afraid they'll be sacked if they go to the police, but the landlord's family member has made several serious threats of violence towards them and the landlord just said it was their (ie the victim's) fault and to keep their mouth shut and not to bring dishnonour on his family by contacting the law about it.

that sounds like a case of constructive dismissal to me. the landlord will have an area manager from the brewery so perhaps you could talk to him/her. try to keep a diary of incidents and bullying as it happens including any witnesses, you dont have to stand for this sort of thing and it shouldnt go unpunished. good luck :)

Your friend, supported by you if you can, should report this to both the police and the brewery.
The police because there are several criminal offences disclosed, the brewery because they have 'vicarious liability' in respect of an employee. Also, drunken landlords are not good tenants and again could risk the brewery getting into trouble.
It can be very hard for your friend to luck up the courage to take action in such circumstances, but please encourage them to do so. Life's too short to be treated badly at work.
Good luck.

i would Report them to the brewery, they are there to look after the place not work and get drunk, if one member of the family is threatening the staff they should also be reported as well.
I've been under a manageress, manageress beat me up after she had a good few drinks. at the end of a night, customers knew what she done. me being soft and wanting to get from being barmaid to manager let it go.
but she was sacked over other things, i ended up running the pub for a while.
so do the right thing don't let this person get away with it, report them.

Report them to the brewery. The Landlord should not be drunk when working its against the breweries regulations. You should phone the Police if they are drunk on duty. And, under no circumstances should anyone take abuse. Speak to a solicitor. Please don't allow this bullies to victimise you.

I would say go to the \police immediately, as this is harrassment and definitely out of order. Also go to the CAB and ask for help in filing a statement in front of a solicitor, as they have lawyers in house, so no need to pay.

Good Luck!
