I don't think it means he was literally "guarding the throne", but that he had a position of responsibility or honor next to it. In old fashioned courts, those with more honor or royal favor stood closer to the throne. The guardian of the throne would then be one of the most honored. Another one of his names was "son of the morning".
A lot of the Bible is figurative and uses flowery poetic language. Greek influence makes us so literal.

You have to remember that everything religious has a human spin on it. A Supreme Being doesn't need a "guardian of the throne", except in human terms. We are a violent people, and understand life in violent terms. Lucifer has also been referred to as "God's right-hand man", but it doesn't sound as lofty a title as the other. Humans love impressive titles.

Lucifer is ONLY called guardian of the throne in gnostics texts. Not biblical ones. Those texts came along during the Cathar heresy some 400 years AFTER Jesus.

In modern and late Medieval Christian thought, Lucifer is a fallen angel commonly associated with Satan, the embodiment of evil and enemy of God. Lucifer is generally considered, based on the influence of Christian literature and legend, to have been a prominent archangel in heaven (although some contexts say he was a cherub or a seraph), prior to having been motivated by pride to rebel against God. When the rebellion failed, Lucifer was cast out of heaven, along with a third of the heavenly host, and came to reside on the world.
Lucifer is a Latin word meaning "light-bearer" (from lux, "light", and ferre, "to bear, bring"), a Roman astrological term for the "Morning Star", the planet Venus. The word Lucifer was the direct translation of the Greek eosphorus ("dawn-bearer"; cf. Greek phosphorus, "light-bearer") used by Jerome in the Vulgate. In that passage, Isaiah 14:12, it referred to one of the popular honorific titles of a Babylonian king; however, later interpretations of the text, and the influence of embellishments in works such as Dante's The Divine Comedy and Milton's Paradise Lost, led to the common idea in Christian mythology and folklore that Lucifer was a poetic appellation of Satan.

'Lucifer' had no titles and was never cast out of heaven because 'Lucifer' never existed. The term 'Lucifer' is a mistranslation of the Hebrew for 'morning star' which was used as an allusion to a human king in a prophesy. Early christians took this term from the greek as referring to an angel who got on the wrong side of God.
So much for that load of crap.

I've never heard that one before, "guardian of the throne." Where did that come from? Just curious. I'm sure he had other titles, but I can't recall any from the scripts right now. I believe another name was "son of the morning"? Or did I just hear that from someone.

Wrap your mind around this:
Traditionally angels don't have free will. This is what makes humans unique in that they control their own destiny and choose to accept God or not. Anyway since angels don't have free will, they only do God's will right? So God must have commanded Lucifer in his rebellion.
Satan is still an angel, and any powers he has come directly from God since God is all powerful there is no power able to give satan abilities that god did not allow and thus God not only passively lets satan exist, but in fact actively created evil.

It's just a dumb story. If you read the book of Enoch there seems to be more fire up there than there is in Hell. Then there's those storage rooms for the rain, snow, stars, Sun and the Moon. How daft were they in the good ol' days anyway?
