What would happen then? Why do they have to announce that loudly in the end of most -if not all- cases?

They imply that all Police Business is offically resolved and thus they presume justice in the case has been rendered! To re-open such a case may thereafter take a court order based on new evdience.

It means that the investigative work is finished and the case file (papers) can be filed away with no further action. Case closed! It's really fun to yell out. Why don't you try? Go over to the window and shout, "Case closed!" Feel the rush. Enjoy the exhilaration!!!

One of these days you need to turn the TV off and see how the police really operate. When a cop works 600 cases + a year do you honestly think they should out "case closed" everytime they close one??????

The case is finished. Not sure that I've ever announced that I've closed a case.

It means that they are no longer working on the case. Either it was solved, or the alloted amount of time to solve it ran out.

If means

1. They have solve the case and made an arrest

2. The have investigated it and have concluded no crime has occurred and case closed.

3. They are lazy and just want to get their free coffee and half price donuts.

Because the case IS closed. Done, finito, they arent going to work on it anymore.
