If you are coming from the United States, play with the selection of airfares in the sense. You should be able to find the lowest airfare say from Los Angeles for the flight that leaves in the afternoon and arrives around midnite Bangkok time. And
book your flight at 6 months in advance to ensure that rate.

Or, If you live in Los Angeles, go to Little Bangkok and talk to some of the Thai travel agents and see if they have any packages for Chiang Mai and Phuket.

Or try Expedia or Orbitz or Hotels.com, but, I have yet to see a good package from them. But, things change you never know.

I use Asiarooms.com to book rooms lately. I used to use HotelClub.com I still check both and others like Res24.com periodically to make sure that Asiarooms.com has the best or generally better rates.

You can check www.kayak.com, it is a search engine that checks many travel websites. Even then go directly to the website to make sure especially airfares.

If time is not an issue and you are flexible in your dates that helps too. October has not been the best time to go. It has rained quite a bit in October the last 2 years. Blame global warming. It has messed up the weather pattern in Asia. I would suggest going between November and April if possible. If you don't mind the rain then go anytime.

You could try booking it in thailand. www.thaiwebsites.com has numerous websites related to Thailand, Phuket, Chiang Mai.

You have some work ahead of you. Good luck.

OCTOBER is NOT!! the best time to go. Do a search and see Thailands weather and rain levels. If you wait til the end of Nov you will start to get the drier cooler climate until it heats up in March. This is the busy season in Dec-Feb so going in Mar/Apr/May/June may be hotter but easier to book rooms at discounts. May and June get wetter but you will have 3/4 of the days beautiful sunny climates though a little humid. Sometimes the rain is only an hour or two. August brings the summer peak season and Sept though rainy, gives half nice days and cheaper prices. It is all listed in any good guide book like Lonely Planet or GO! guides.

This is what I would recommend: 1. Land at BKK and take a internal flight to Koh Samui. Stay in Samui for 4 to 5 days. 2. Take a flight from Samui to BKK. Once landed take a taxi to Pattaya. Spend a few days here. 4. Finish the trip in Bangkok so that you don't have far to travel to the airport on your way home. I did a similar thing a few months ago and had a blast. This is just my suggestion and it will involve some moving around, but you will get to see 3 different places and should be a good experience. Its ideal if you want to go to a few different places in a short amount of time. Enjoy and have fun in the Land of Smiles!

Please visit our TAT (Tourism Authority of Thailand) website for more info and details you'd like to know and compare, moreover, when you stay at a good hotel in Bangkok, you may ask some people at the Counter Service for their advice.
Welcome and enjoy your visit.
