it sounds like a boot file is corrupted. If you have the original install disk, insert into the cd drive and boot from the cd rom. If not, as soon as you see the spalsh screen, press either F10 or F12 and see if you can do a system recovery. You will probably lose any data you have saved, so if you can; back up this data before taking these steps.
