Simple answer, no. You should keep him in his forward facing car seat until he reaches the weight allotment for it. Then move into a booster seat with a back, the ones without a back are not as safe or comfortable.

I would not advise it. They are not supposed to use booster seats until they are 3 or 4. The law states (at least in Texas) that a child needs to be restrained in car seat or booster seat until they are 4 and or I think 80 pounds. If you use a booster seat for a 19 month old you will have to use the set belt to hold them in and that is not safe. They need that front harness because they can't stop themselves from going forward like a 3 or 4 year old. Plus a booster seat won't keep them in the seat. They will try and probably succeed at getting out. A 19 month old needs that back support. So for your childs safety get a car seat that can turn into a booster seat when they are older.

It all depends on what state you live in. Every state has their own set of laws on carseats and age and weight. I would think with a child this young you may want to go with a bigger carseat and not a booster. He may be big for his age, but his neck and back need the support of the carseat. I don't think I would be willing to take the risk on a booster until he is old enough. They make bigger carseats for taller children. I swear by Britax cardseats. Please check your laws because if you get pulled over for something they can fine you for not having your son in the proper restraint. I would rather him be safe in a carseat then just buckled into the car seatbelt. Boosters seats are only there for lifting up of the child and not necessarly for protection. What if he got thrown? Would it really protect him? Take everything into consideration before making descisions for your sons sake.

Here's the law: A child 20 lbs. to 40 lbs. and / or 4 years old needs to be in a forward facing convertible (back booster) safety seat. Booster seat (no back) 40 to 80 lbs. with a belt-positioning seat. Saftey Belts:> 80lbs. and 4'9" or over. And make sure all children 12 and under are in the back seat. Hope this helps.

I went through the same thing with my child. My little boy needed my daughter's convertible carseat so I needed to get her one. After researching I realized that she didn't meet the weight AND age requirements for certain seats.
Your son is too young for a backless booster but he is big enough for other boosters. Go to www.elitecarseats.com research the different kinds of carseat. Each carseat will have a age, weight and height requirement. Make sure whichever you purchase that your child fits into those catagories.

No, he's not big enough yet. Look up the specs for a booster seat and it should tell you the height/weight/age requirements. Just check some out on walmart's website or something.

My son is 37lbs, almost 2. We tried it once in grammas car in an EMERGENCY situation. (me home alone, daddy at work with car andcarseat for him) the bad part was that he got tired because we were at the hospital so long and he fell asleep in it on the way home. And there is no way a child that young can sleep in the booster. My mom had picked it upon a going out of business sale for later, but we have also purchased a carseat for her truck now as well.

well, I think your son is too young for a booster seat! I pretty sure you are not supposed to use a booster untill they are at least 3 years old and they have to be a larger 3 year old! Dont qoute me on it, I am not compleatly sure about it, but I am pretty sure!
