If God never gives you more than you can handle, what does it mean when you die of an infection or are untimely crushed by a car or other object?

Oh c'mon, even I know this one. They're going to say sin. If it can't be explained away by a willfull act of "god", they default to "well, sin causes bad stuff... if this is bad stuff that god would never do then it's our fault cuz we're all so bad and doing bad things and doing bad causes more bad that we never could've caused... ourselves... but we did cause it...... Tylenol?"

Oh, right, well.... they'll either say "sin" or "DO NOT QUESTION GOD! WHO ARE YOU TO THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX! BAD SUBORDINATE!"

There isn't one. If a christian claims that god is testing you, hey, let me off the train. God cannot be all merciful and all powerful. The argument just doesn't hold. Logic doesn't work, here. One can only conclude that there was a genetic error, and that therefore there is not supernatural god that is sitting there watching over everything. kFrankly, I find the absence of some supernatural god playing with my life very comforting. Most of the fundy christians I know are selfish, self-centered people of rather low education and intelligence levels that prefer to wallow in their self-pity, and not take responsibility for their own lives. DNA doesn't always get it right, is the only scientific answer.

in my opinion, birth defects are not due to sin because the babies have just been born........even though we are born sinful......but rather, birth defects in some way help others......ie. my mum was helping out a family with a loan and their little girl got on the phone with a lisp or something (a handicap) and my mum was touched for some reason.......ik this isnt a birth defect per say but it is an example

People with birth defects are the strongest people in the world. They can handle the stress and disadvantages of not being "normal."
The Christian explanation is that ....God only gives you what you can handle. If you are weak, you will be healthy.

Oh...I thought you were talking about birth defects.......not death.

Hmm I've heard it explained by them as both sins of the parents or a test of faith and love. So, take your pick of brain-dead religious answers. I'll stick with real science as an atheist.

Genetic mutations brought about by the environment and/or human actions, such as radiation, pollution, incest, alcohol and drug abuse, ingestion of carcinogens, exposure to certain bacteria during pregnancy, medical mistakes, and all sorts of other things.

We live in a fallen world, is another way of putting it.

That or original sin, which is the hideous doctrine that you are being punished for something that you didn't do and weren't even around for.
