Cholestasis may increase the risks for fetal distress, preterm birth, or stillbirth. A developing baby relies on the mother’s liver to remove bile acids from the blood, therefore the elevated levels of maternal bile cause stress on the baby’s liver. Women with Cholestasis should be monitored closely and serious consideration should be given to inducing labor once the baby’s lungs have reached maturity.
If your wife's Dr informed her that she has Cholestasis of Pregnancy why has he not discussed what it can do to the baby and birthing options?

Cholestasis is not an infectious disease. I really don't think that anyone's personal experience will predict whether or not your wife will need induction. This is a question you and she should be asking her OB/Gyn. Pick up the phone.

I agree with Pamela and Tweety - you and your wife need to talk to her midwife/obstetrician. I'm sure they're monitoring her liver function tests carefully, and the results of this will determine if she needs to be induced or not. A friend of mine had the exact same problem in pregnancy and she delivered normally, but every case is very different. Good luck :)

You do need to get this answered by your wife's doctor...why haven't you already been given this information? Make that doctor talk!
