2 years ago we had this one cat named Shadow. He was my mom's baby, she loved him more than you can imagine. We had him for about 2 years previous to the above mentioned date. 1 weekend that summer my mom & dad were up at Penn State for the weekend. While home my bf & I found Shadow underneath a tree. He had been hit by a car but was alive. We took him to the animal hospital. I will spare details but we had to keep him alive long enough for my mom to get home & say goodbye. We then put him to sleep. 1 month later we got a new cat named Bungee. He is the cutest cat ever. He is a Baby, I mean literally, 2 years old & you can carry him like a baby everybody loves him. Well I woke up this morning & went outside & found Bungee by the steps & he was dead! Today is my mom's birthday & she is in Mexico on vaca till Sun. I have the vet holding him until she gets home. I won't tell her till she gets home but what do I say to her? HELP! She is going to freak out and I am freaking out. So Sad

OK for the record. I love cats and would never ever ever ever ever harm them. And if you say that it is just a cat, then you obviously don't have one. I am out of college and my sister is finishing up her last 2 years. My mother's pets are her children! Please don't tell me I am overreacting, this cat is so important to my family as are the rest of our cats.

We have tried to keep the cats inside, but we own a dog as well and he has a dog door. By watching the dog, teh cats have learned how to go in and out. It is hard to stop them without keeping the dog cooped up

Molly I'm so sorry for the uncomfortable situation you are in. Procrastinating will just make it worse, so when she gets back, just tell her everything. She would want to hear it from you anyway instead of finding out otherwise. Good luck.

I know how you feel.
My cats are my babies too. When I lost my cat Tango (she was 18 years old), it was devastating. I don't know what I'll do when I finally lose my Sasha. Sasha sleeps in my arms every night. I don't know how I'll get used to her not being there.
As to your mother, I don't think there's any way you can really help her through this.
But, you might like to convince her of a few things.
Never let the cat out at night. If the cats outside, call it every couple of hours so it comes to you, or at least answers your call.
Better yet, let it outside only on a leesh or not at all. That will prevent this from happening.
The cat will beg and scream but if they're raised as an inside kitty, it'll be much easier on you and it.
I'm not sure what to tell you to say to her.

Its a cat. It happens. Want the cat to live longer? Don't let it outdoors. I made the mistake of keeping the cat indoors and letting it go in the garage for it's litter box. The damn thing is 13 and still alive and well.
My tennat took another cat we had that was an indoor cat. let it out twice. One the third time....thump.....car never even slowed.
So...theres the solution to your problem if you take it upon yourself to get another kitty. Don't want the hassle of cleaning litter boxes and keeping 'em indoors? Then make ready for another feline funeral.
Too bad though. Although i have no use for cats that doesn't mean I'm insensitive to others who do like them. But I've given you a solution to your 'keeping the cat alive" problem. Your mother is YOUR problem.

When she gets home, would already have cat buried with some type of memorial as a headstone. Tell you mom what happened and you took care of everything and tell her that you love her. Might be a good deal about waiting to get another cat. Maybe a bird or something that does not keep dying. Good luck!

There is nothing your mom can do about the situation, you should tell her when she comes home. No need to upset her while on the rest of her vacation. When she come home and gets settled in, sit down with her and explain what happened. It's all you can do. Good luck and I am sorry you have to do this.

You have to tell her what happened, but wait until she gets home. Maybe do all the arrangments with the vet so she doesn't have to. Also, maybe have her keep her cats inside; it will extend their lives and they can live a very full life.

just tell her the truth and sympathize for her, get her something to cheer her up for when she gets home but dont try and make up sum story for how the cat died, just tell her you found him like that and you are sorry you were not able to change what happened.

It's a CAT!! It's too bad but it isn't a child!! Why do all your cats die when MOM is gone???
Did you know that people who torture or kill animals are more likely to become serial killers when they grow up!!
