i have a 6month old irish setter and recently he's refusing his food or just touching it, he is still active, has had his vacinations, he is vomiting now and then sometimes trying to vomit but failing to do so, he's been on and off like this for the past week, at first i thaught that he had an upset stomach but now i dont know what to think. he seems fine every other time but just wont eat his food, it aint anything to do with the brand of food as he gets fed fresh beef and rabbit, he had a bad night last week where i was up most of the night with him because he was being sick a lot all night but was ok in the morning. i was wondering if that night could have had some affect on him as he is a sensitive breed of dog. Any suggestions please?

Why are you even asking this question? Your dog will not eat and is throwing up. Take him to the vet. Hopefully your waiting has not made it any worse. I cannot believe you could not figure this one out on your own. Its like smelling a gas leak and calling the landlord to ask what to do... answer is obvious and not taking it is dangerous.

Like everyone said, off he goes to the vet. This can lead to many symptoms. Some being bad or worst.

I too had the same case and she's around 7 years old. It seems her stomach was quite upset with the food we provided her when she vomitted a lot. She's hungry but she couldn't eat. When it was the second day, we thought of bringing her to the vet, my mother gave my dog a different meal and vitamin supplements.

It took a week before she got better and slowly built the appetite again. I was afraid if was something serious when I came across all the signs she was showing online. Turns out she's fine and happy right now ^_^. However I'm keeping my eyes on her since one wouldn't be enough.

She had the same problem once but it was worms inside her stomach. We went to the vet had her injections and she'll all better the next day. If there's any progress keep us notify. My concern for pets are quite extreme and I wish to know how he's doing.

You might want to take him to the vet. He could have an allergy to the beef or rabbit that you do not know about. Maybe he doesn't like the food you are feeding him. You should try some dry dog food like science diet for puppies. Those dry dog food have certain nutrients puppies need to grow and develop properly. He isn't getting those nutrients form fresh beef and rabbit. Most dry dog foods are chicken and lamb. But like i said in the beginning take him to the vet because this has been going on a week and he could be getting dehydrated. just because he has had his shots doesn't mean he can not get sick. I hope he gets better.

My first question is always this...What did the vet say? He should have been the first person you called....

Vomiting can be anything. Although it's not as bad as diarreha, it's still bad. Perhaps there was something wrong with the fresh meat he received, perhaps he has a blockage, maybe a viral infection.

A veterinarian will be able to better tell what's going on. Call them, explain to them what you have said about. He will either want to see the dog, or will be able to prescribe something (possibly Pepto, but LET HIM TELL YOU THE AMOUNT).

Since vomiting isn't normal, the vet should be called at once.

The diet is too rich for a puppy that age.

First, go to the vet to eliminate it being a bowel obstruction or something physically wrong. Setters have sensitive stomachs and food made from lamb & rice is the best for them. Go to a dry like Iams and mix in eggs and tuna once a week to keep that mahogany coat shiny.

Take him to the vet immediately!! A healthy dog does not vomit and refuse food for more than 24 hours unless there is something wrong. It could be as simple as a bacterial infection or it could be something else. Only a qualified vet could diagnose the problem.

More than likely he ate something he can't pass. He WILL need to go to the vet and it's going to be expensive.

My BMD got ahold of a corncob. He ate it and it got stuck in his intestines. He started throwing up. Then not eating or pooping at all. If he drank, it came back up..because it can't go down. Get an xray, that will tell you what you want to know. GO NOW because if he starts dying over the weekend, you will have to find an emergency vet and they will rake you over the coals with tests.

TRUST ME ON THIS..if they want to do a bunch of blood and fecal tests, and you are pretty sure he is healthy otherwise, demand they skip them and do an xray only. They can charge you, I mean DO the other tests after the xray if need be. That is how they make money, tests. Get the xray!!

Maybe he is vomiting because the food is upsetting his tummy - and that could also be the same reason that he is refusing his food. Try switching him over, slowly, to a high quality food with a lower residue - such as Iams, Science Diet or Eukanuba! Good Luck

You are up all night with your dog and didnt take him to a vet? Go ask a vet. Also maybe that diet you have him on is too rich for his system try plain canned dog food.

Take him to the vet, it could be a virus or even cancer. I know that sounds scary, but it can happen. Our friends had a greyhound with the same symptoms and it was cancer. So take himto the vet and find out what's going on, hopefully it is just a virus or something less serious.
