Yes. He who will not care for his own is worse than an infidel.

I do study the Bible also, but a concise answer is found in the Book of Mormon in one scripture.
Alma 43:47 And again, the Lord has said that: Ye shall defend your families even unto bloodshed. Therefore for this cause were the Nephites contending with the Lamanites, to defend themselves, and their families, and their lands, their country, and their rights, and their religion.
and also one in the Doctrine and Covenants
D&C 134:11 We believe that men should appeal to the civil law for redress of grievances, where personal abuse is inflicted or the right of property or character infringed, where such laws exist as will protect the same; but we believe that all men are justified in defending themselves, their friends, and property, and the government, from the unlawful assaults and encroachments of all persons in times of exigency, where immediate appeal cannot be made to the laws, and relief afforded.

I think it is justifiable. But you have to go with a defense that is inspired and maintained by the Lord. Time after time in the Bible the Lord tried to teach Israelite generals not to place their trust in the arm of flesh, but in His strength. He did not, however, ask them to lay down all their arms and sit in their houses as if nothing was happening. For example, in Judges 6 and 7 - Gideon's army was pared down to 300 men, the ones who were the most alert, prepared, and obedient - those who kept one hand on their sword while drinking, for example. In the New Testament there is an emphasis on forgiving others, to stop getting so upset over small infractions. Brawls and petty offenses do not justify going to war against an entire nation, in other words, nor should they require a system of debilitating and greedy lawyers to interpret simple actions. If Christians would like to support the Bible with the Book of Mormon, as I do, then the Lord's point of view can be strengthened. "And they were doing that which they felt was the duty which they owed to their God; for the Lord had said unto them, and also unto their fathers, that: Inasmuch as ye are not guilty of the first offense, neither the second, ye shall not suffer yourselves to be slain by the hands of your enemies. And again, the Lord has said that: Ye shall defend your families even unto bloodshed. Therefore for this cause were the Nephites contending with the Lamanites, to defend themselves, and their families, and their lands, their country, and their rights, and their religion." Alma 43:46-47

I'm not a Biblical scholar but I am familiar with The Holy Bible. It is not only justifiable, it is your responsibility and duty to do so. One verse comes to mind!
"8But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel." I Timothy 5:8 in The Holy Bible.
Because you are part of that family and they need you to provide for them, protecting yourself and your family is certainly a provision.

In regards to thetert:
1 Corinthians 6:19-20
19Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; 20you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body.

the law of Moses, provides the principle and direction of thought (even though we aren't under it today.)
If it happens during the day and you could have escaped without confronting the attacker you were to do so. If under these conditions if you killed the attacker then you would be blood guilty.
If it happened during the night and you were awaken by surprise, and the attacker is killed you would not be blood guilty.
No where does life, family, and home equate to country.
Jesus said he who lives by the sword dies by the sword.
We are to love our enemies.

I don't have any bible references on me. But, it is justifiable.
God doesn't want you to be a floor mat. There is righteous anger. You are suppose to take care of your body as a holy temple (including protecting it). I'm sure someone has that verse....
