It is hard not to get carried away. A good rule of thumb is to give yourself a limit of whatever you think you can afford and just don't go over it. You do not want to be paying off Christmas until next Christmas.

If You think you have spent too much, then you could try to either return some of the things OR you could keep some of it until her b-day in January....my daughter's birthday is in January and I usually do that.

I usually don't spend a lot of money on my kids at Christmas time. I try to get them a lot of things they need ie: clothes, stuff for their rooms, etc (in other words "BORING" even though my kids LOVE new clothes) and then get them one or two things that I know they really WANT and usually spend about $50-$100 on that. (One year I went WAY overboard, like you and they ended up being a bit overwhelmed and only played with one or two things anyway)

To make the Christmas season even more special, we usually do a few things throughout the season too. Last year we had an advent calendar with different goodies in it. The kids took turned opening the windows. We also got some gingerbread house kits and had fun doing those.

I think you should spend whatever it is that you can afford i'm the same way i get carried away and want to buy my daughter everything its fun to shop for your little girl but you dont want them to be spoiled and expect it all the time a child would be less disappointed if they werent use to getting so much other then use to getting everything under the sun and then one year you may not be able to afford it and get alot less and feel like she didnt get everything she wanted get her use to your budget so she gets around the same amount of things every year it doesnt mean she will be greedy but some kids dont understand why they got more last time then this time all in all i think even though its hard you dont want to spoil her to much teach her to be grateful but you truly are a wonderful mother for trying so hard to see that smile on her face!!!

Hon, I think it's safe to say that you have exceeded the normal limit!! LOL Don't worry, if you've got the extra money to spend that's great, but it may be setting her expectations for future Christmases even higher!! It seems like you have plenty for her so it might be a good idea to set some of the smaller stuff aside for her birthday and maybe special occasions. Of course some of that small stuff would be great stocking stuffers if you do stockings for Christmas morning.
I think my parents spent about $150 on each of us (I have 1 brother & sister) sometimes more depending on the year.
Either way, she is going to have a great Christmas morning!!!

Wow, you really got it all. I have 2 daughters ages 9 and 3. This year I am spending about 150 on each. They already have so much stuff that almost half of what I spend is on clothes and the other half on specific toys that they have asked for. Plus my mom goes overboard every year, so I know they are going to get a bunch of stuff from her as well.

If we could afford it, I would probably go nuts on my kids lol.

Normally I think we only spend like up to $100 per child. My parents (mainly my mom) go nuts and usually get the kids a ton of clothes and stuff, so we usually don't have to buy much for them.

Money is tight here so that usually limits a lot of the spending too and with 4 kids, you have to split what you can between them. Hubby and I never buy for each other, just the kids.

I spend no regulated amount however I try not to spend more then $200 on each of my kids at Christmas. They get so much stuff from other people that they don't care. I tell them every year, they are 14,12,10, tell me the one thing you want the most and if its not to expensive then thats what they get and now that they are older everything they want is expensive so they don't get as much. Your child is still young and its your only one so if you can afford to spoil her a little then go for it.

There is no set amount. you can spend as little or as much. but don't spend more than you have. you don't want to go into debt for spending a thousands of dollars on her.

i grew up with 4 siblings(5 of us all together) and i was happy with whatever i got.

when i was younger i remember getting alot more things than when i got older. its because when we're young you can spend on little things *like barbie clothes, dolls, clothes* and other smaller things that are in-expensive. but now we only get a few things that are more expensive but we'll appreciate them more since we are older.

i think it would be a good thing to separate them. try to stay about even with them. but its all up to you.

IF you have the money, then spend away. Don't feel bad for it. She is your child, you do what you want as long as you are not physically harming her. I have two kids and I spend about 400 a piece on them. And with prices these days, it don't take long to go through it. Merry Christmas!
