i got this in a myspace bulletin. i'm a dr pepper addict myself, but this was a big eye opener. enjoy!
WATER OR COKE?
This is really an eye opener...Water or Coke?
We all know that water is important but,
I've never seen it written down like this before.
WATER
1. 75% of Americans are chronically dehydrated.
2. In 37% of Americans, the thirst mechanism is so
weak that it is often mistaken for hunger.
3. Even MILD dehydration will slow down one's
metabolism as much as 3%.
4. One glass of water will shut down midnight hunger
pains for almost 100% of the dieters studied in a
University of Washington study.
5. Lack of water, the #1 trigger of daytime fatigue.
6. Preliminary research indicates that 8-10 glasses
of water a day could significantly ease back and
joint pain for up to 80% of sufferers.
7. A mere 2% drop in body water can trigger fuzzy
short-term memory, trouble with basic math, and
difficulty focusing on the computer screen or on a
printed page.
8. Drinking 5 glasses of water daily decreases the
risk of colon cancer by 45%, plus it can slash the
risk of breast cancer by 79%, and one is 50% less
likely to develop bladder cancer.
And now for the properties of COKE:
In many states (in the USA) the highway patrol
carries two gallons of coke in the trunk to remove
blood from the highway after a car accident.
You can put a T-bone steak in a bowl of coke and
it will be gone in two days.
To clean a toilet: Pour a can of Coca-Cola into
the toilet bowl and let the "real thing" sit for one
hour, then flush clean. The citric acid in Coke
removes stains from vitreous China.
To remove rust spots from chrome car bumpers: Rub
the bumper with a rumpled-up piece of Reynolds Wrap
aluminum foil dipped in Coca-Cola.
To clean corrosion from car battery terminals:
Pour a can of Coca-Cola over the terminals to bubble
away the corrosion.
To loosen a rusted bolt: Applying a cloth soaked
in Coca-Cola to the rusted bolt for several minutes.
To remove grease from clothes: Empty a can of coke
into a load of greasy clothes, add detergent, and run
through a regular cycle. The Coca-Cola will help
loosen grease stains.
It will also clean road haze from your windshield.
For Your Info:
1. The active ingredient in Coke is phosphoric acid.
Its pH is 2.8. It will dissolve a nail in about 4 days.
Phosphoric acid also leaches calcium from bones
and is a major contributor to the rising increase in
osteoporosis.
2. To carry Coca-Cola syrup (the concentrate) the
commercial truck must use the Hazardous material
place cards reserved for Highly corrosive materials.
3. The distributors of coke have been using it to
clean the engines of their trucks for about 20 years!
Now the question is, would you like a coke or a glass
of water?

Yes it is bad for you, I don't know about dangerous. Coca-Cola is empty calories, and all that sugar is not good for your pancreas. If you have to have soda I would try switching to diet, at least then you aren't consuming the empty calories. It may taste weird at first but you will get used to it. However, I think that sodas increase your blood pressure. I've been drinking more here in college than I ever have and I went to the doctor, and he told me that my blood pressure might be too high, even though I exercise at least 90 minutes a day if not more, apparently high blood pressure can affect any shape or size. Good luck, and next time you're thirsty, choose WATER!

as with anything in nutrition, moderation is key. anything in large quantities will cause problems. too much sugars can lead to obesity. too much fat can lead to cardiovasuclar disease. if you take it to the extreme, broccoli could cause cancer according to Ames (mind that you would have to eat an astronomical amount).
the problem with coke is that it offers virtually nothing, and is thus termed as being empty calories. other research suggests that the main sugar (fructose) may be even worse than other simple sugars.
I'm guessing that one coke a day isn't going to kill you, but there are always complicating factors. are you already obese? do you lead a sedentary lifestyle? in which case you should probably stay away from sodas. if you need a kick, drink black coffee.

Yes, it contributes to weight gain, and diabetes. Some even believe that it may cause bone loss or osteoporosis. However, 500ml doesn't seem like enough to do a lot of damage. If you're active, and fit, I wouldn't worry about it.
I changed from soda to unsweetend tea and I feel a lot better. However, I do enjoy soda with my hamburgers, pizza, and hot dogs, etc. now and then.

Coke Cola has extracts from cocain plants without the bad stuff, for a start that doesn't sound healthy. However pure orange juice is worse for your teeth then then coca cola!!! The acid in it is ment to corrode far more quickly.

Too much of anything is bad. But compared to alcohol beverages, Coke is perfectly safe, for your health. But dangerous for your teeth. Personally, I drink diet coke. I cook with it, too.

There is an aspect that is dangerous. Too much refined sugar like that can trigger a diabetic problem.
The caffeine isn;t great, but likely not that harmful except as a souce of addiction.

I would switch to diet... all that excess sugar can lead to weight gain, the chemicals in it aren't exactly good for you but the sugar and caffiene can have adverse effects on your health... Once you've made the switch to diet switch over to diet caffiene free and wean yourself off of the caffiene... Once you're good with diet caffiene you can stop drinking soda all together and just drink water- or if you still want something fizzy try and find Diet Rite in your area- It's sugar fee, caffiene free, and it's made with splenda instead of aspertame which has been shown to cause tumors in lab tests.
My husband used to be addicted to Mountain Dew and this is how I managed to get him off of it... Now we have water deliverd to our home monthly and it costs less than what we'd been spending on soda monthly when he was truly addicted to it! My husband was so addicted that he used to get the shakes!
