Strep is an infection of your pharynx (area behind your mouth and nose), while tonsilitis is an infection of the tonsils.
You can strep all your life, but once your tonsils are gone, no more tonsilitis.

Strep is a bacterial infecion of the throat by strep bacteria...it can go to sinues and deep in the throat. Tonsilitis is limited to tonsils and may not be strep bacteria.

strep throat goes away with antibiotic's and you can get it several times in your life and tonsillitis's will get better But each time they flare up getting worse each time until they are taken out.
