i don't open for someone i don't know.. and i sneak over to the window and look out for any car and then carefully walk to the door and look out the peephole before i ask who it is...if i see someone i don't want to talk to i leave the door and go back to whatever i was doing..

I always open the door. I don't really think it's important but I just do.
Some of the people selling stuff are nice and can brighten your day a little. Even if I never buy anything from them! Okay.. maybe a few air fresheners for a charity haha... but all those so-called "foreign" people selling stuff to pay for their college course -yeah right! I know fine well that you can speak English better than that or you wouldn't have been accepted into the college!
Those really bother me. Don't try to trick me into buying one of your highly overpriced £40 for a flimsy wire picture frame type junk.
I always like to see my neighbours. They're nice. :)
Will you be opening the door to the trick-or-treaters? I like doing that too lol!
I guess it's different because I live in the UK. If I lived in America I would be scared to open the door to anyone! lol
One time someone came to our door at 1am. We were a bit freaked out but my boyfriend answered it and it turns out it was an elderly neighbour whos kitten had escaped and run in our garden (through the locked gate) It was tiny, never been out before and had no needles so it was important that she found it, aww! We helped her get it back.

I only answer my front door when I feel like it or I know someone is coming over.
Occasionally I make a mistake and find someone standing there trying to sell me something or to "save" me. Then I very politely say "No thank you" and close the door on the sales people (except for the Scouts; I'm usually a sucker for a little kid with cookies or chocolate. Then I'll buy.). For the religious people, I'm also polite. I just say "I already believe and am firm and comfortable in my belief" (I NEVER discuss what I believe. If they push, I just repeat what's in quotes....it's called "the broken record approach" and it usually works!) and suggest they go next door to my heathen (not really) neighbors (from Hell -- but I don't say that part) who really need help! That kinda gets two birds with one stone!

I will answer the door, by turning on the porch light to alert them to someone being inside and say, 'can I help you'. It's not safe to just open the door anymore. People will come in and destroy you and your things, just for fun, it seems. You're taking the safest way, even if that's not your reason! (I don't like the religionists coming to my door, either!) I'd never heard the term 'God botherers' before, and I like it. Hope you don't mind if I keep and use it!

Open the door. It could be a friend, cute guy, relative. If it is a nosy neighbour or annoying salesmen just slam the door in their face. It's not exactly a hassle.

Yes I do, I'm too nosy and just have to know why they are there. But I did work for a while as a door-to-door salesman, so if I happen to notice one of them at my front door I think I'll ignore them!

I do not answer my front door after a certain time, that way I know I will not be disturbed. If visitors want to call round they have to ring me before and let me know when they are comming.
In today's world you cannot be to complacient, your safety is more important than anything else.

Sometimes I answer and sometimes I don't. If they are selling/packaging religion I quickly thank them, tell them I'm not interested and close the door before they can respond. I consider soliciting religion an invasion of privacy and rude.

I look through the peephole first. If I don't know who it is, I leave the chain on and ask what they want, ready to slam the door at any minute.
