I had been to Hongkong last year. Food is expensive down there. I advise you to bring some food. Travel to Hongkong usually is 2-3 days if you are in a package tour. We didnt go in a package tour since 2 of my friends used to live there.
We brought mineral water, 2-3 bottles would be enough. If you can bring more then that will be fine. Mineral water there is expensive. We brought also instant soups and rice and canned goods.
You can buy great bargains in their side walks. They have their flea markets there. Dont buy in the malls. It is quite expensive. There are sales! We watched out for the sales especially in GAP stores.
Plan your trip. Browse on the internet! There are free maps over there in the airport! Some are in English, others are in Chinese.
The best places we've been there are the Hongkong Disneyland, Victoria's peak and watch out for the symphony of lights at around 8 pm!

Try www.asiarooms.com to book a room if you have not already. They have the best rates for Asia if I have found. Occasionally, Expedia or Orbitz or hotels.com has good packages. Or you can try priceline.com too and bid for your package or airfare or hotel. Or you can try www.hotelclub.com it is a free membership club that you can book your flight and hotel and get 3 percent back after staying at the hotel. Try to find a hotel close to the subway or the bus lines.
Once there, obtain an Octopus card, this is a prepaid card that you can use to pay for your subway fare, meals, and some purchases as long as the merchant is participating.

It is pretty convenient and you get discounts and can redeem your points while there.
Shopping go to the Mon Kok section just off the subway. There must be 8 blocks of stalls of all kinds of clothes and trinkets. Many are the same things and some are very unique.
Have a good trip

Travel on Cebu Pacific airlines. They've got the best budget fares; restricted but no problem. Don't eat at malls or fancy restaurants since they are very pricey! Go to small chinese restaurants. Most have English menus and if not, they have pictures you can just select from. Travel by the train, MTR or KCR or bus. They are very user friendly, you'll never get lost. Don't take taxis as they are expensive, of course translating to Philippine pesos. Exchange rate is 1HK$ : 6+PhilPeso. Don't shop in malls as you have those same things in the Phils. Go to the street markets like the ones in Mongkok and Causeway Bay. Get a free map at the airport once you arrive in HK.
I'm sure you'll have a great time in HK! Have fun!

The airplane ticket will be your major expense, but finding a cheap ticket at the last minute is next to impossible. However, once there, you can stay in dorms or shared hostels for about $10 a night, and food can be pretty cheap if you eat where and what normal Hongkongers eat, in the many small restaurants on every street corners.

I know you can book the cheapest air ticket if you are sure you will not change your schedule. These cheap ticket got a lot of restrictions i.e. you cannot change or add or cancel your return date. If you need a hotel, try to check out those apartment hotel, they are much cheap than hotel.
