They are littermates, 15 months old. They were not raised together, I just got the second one 3 months ago, but they were both doing it in their separate homes. Whenever I leave the house the go to the bathroom. Even when I take them out right before and make sure they go, I'm gone for 15 minutes and when I come back, they have gone already. When I'm home, they are little angels with the bathroom issue. I have no idea how to correct a behavior that only occurs when I'm gone. HELP!

They are being crated right now, but my goal is to not have to. Any behavior modification ideas?

Just wanted to clarify; they are both crate trained, and spend plenty of time in their crates. I just wanted to see if any one had ideas so I could eventually not have to use the crates.

Crate them. Works wonders! My pup has been housebroken since 3 mos. He goes 8 hours overnight and another 5 during the day in his crate. When he's out he gets plenty of exercise and attention. He really likes his crate, he goes in to escape when he gets tired or just wants to enjoy a treat all alone. When he's not in the crate we keep an eye on him for signs he has to go out - like sniffing around or sitting at the door. Then he goes to his potty place in the yard to go - always the same place, so he knows when I say "potty" where he has to go.

well in my experience i had the same problem ,
the way that i dealt with it was actually somewhat simple.
if you dont allready have one purchase a large cage and keep him there when you leave, if he really has to go he will go in the cage. but usually animals wont go when their in a confined space like that.
just make sure the cage is big enough that he can stand and turn aound in. if he does go in the cage it wont happen many times.
after once or twice hell get the hint.

when they go to the bathroom in the house take them over to it and put their nose down by it. [so they can see it] then give them a light smack on the nose to teach them that it is wrong.
