When do you do it? (morning, night, mealtime).
How do you get everyone together?
Do you pray specifically for members of your family that are there with you?
Feel free to share any of your other thoughts on the subject.
thanks

- It's so great to see that those of you who don't pray find other uplifting ways to be together as a family.

My family is like trouthunters, atheist/agnostic. My mom is sort of pantheistic. We don't pray but we do get together to discuss issues on a weekly basis. If there is a problem we discuss/brainstorm solutions together. My grandparent's on my mom's side are Christian though and we always have Thanksgiving with them they like to say a prayer. We worked out a nice solution that we bow our heads for the prayer but then we go around the table and everyone shares something they are thankful for in their lives. I find the discussion and sharing much more fulfilling than the prayer stuff personally but I think it great to be able to respect each other's differences.

My Boyfriend's family prays as a family. I think its really cute. They pray every morning, at every meal and his mom prays with the two youngest girls every night. I think it really opens up their hearts to each other and helps then know that they always have someone to talk to because they share their feelings everyday.

I pray with my daughter everyday in the morning as we are walking to school. She is 7 years old and she prays out loud right after I am finished praying out loud for all sorts of things, but especially for us to do our best during the day for God.
Thanx.

When my girls were in high school, I would walk them from the parking lot into the main lobby of the school, and I put my arms around them (they were holding their book bags, etc.) and I prayed for them and for their protection throughout the day.
Guys from the school saw this and many of them were intimidated by this practice, so they never asked my daughters for dates. I told my girls that if that was all it took to scare off the guys, then they were not worthy of dating my daughters anyway!
It's harder now that my kids are grown, but they still call on me to pray for them and their concerns.

My parents forced me to pray (and my brother, but I don't think he minded) and I hated it. Had to pray over food, had to pray before going on vacation, had to to pray for someones illness. How did they get us together? Growing up, knowing I had no choice in the matter, and it was safer not to press the issue. I hated it, no one should be forced to pray, especially when they aren't sure they entirely believe it.

Yes, five times a day. It starts at the break of dawn and into the night, since I was seven years old.
