Ok im ina huge siuation. I am a australian nanny working for an american family. Im in the usa on a j1 visa that expires next year in june and unless i extend my stay for another year i have to go back to OZ. I also have a boyfriend here who i love very much and we would like to get married. Does me getting married while i am still in the country on my j1 visa cancell out that visa? i would love to extend my stay with the family i am working for but unfortunatly they are fighting like crazy and the possiblity of them staying married for another year is very little chance. im acutally having a hard time working for them right now as they keep involving me in their fights and i just wanted to know if if i was to get married now would that have any effect on my j1 visa and wouyld the program im working with find out that i got married??

J visas have problems. Are you subject to the two-year bar? Look at the visa, it will either say subject or not subject to the two year bar. If you are subject to the bar, you are looking at a long struggle ahead. If not, you have several options. The best source of information is Catholic Charities. Usually, for 25 dollars, they can explain what you and your boyfriend need to do. If you have any questions, email me at mtpizzo@yahoo.it
