Billy Graham has been a wonderful evangelist but we don't consider him our pope. He is here to spread the Gospel, he doesn't set the rules for the faith like the Pope does.

Not really, because he does not form any new traditions, nor does he clarify any doctrine. The Roman pope has authority to apply the Bible to new issues and come up with new commandments or new teachings not actually found in the Bible (like the immaculate conception of Mary, or forbidding all birth control). With all due respect, Billy Graham normally does not deal with deep issues. Martin Luther came up with new concepts by re-examining the Bible, but Mr. Graham refuses to do this. I am not trying to put him down, but he is more like a PR man than a CEO.

I like Billy Graham, but there are a lot of things I disagree with him on, especially as he has gotten older, there are certain things he doesn't take the same stance on anymore. I think he has made a tremendous impact overall. Franklin seems to be filling his dad's shoes pretty well. He has this program out of Georgia that has people fill shoe boxes with toothpaste, toys, etc. all over the nation and they get sent to kids in other countries just to show them the love of Christ.

No, I do not regard Billy Graham as a pope figure at all. In fact, this question is the first time I heard it mentioned.

Billy Graham was without exception the best evangelist of our time, but I do not know of anyone who thinks of him as anything like the Catholics think of the Pope. That is giving to much to any one man, for after all we are just men.
Being an Evangelist has its drawbacks. The biggest being time away from family, but I and my family are willing to make that sacrifice, to be obedient to the call of God, just as Billy Graham's family was. His kids payed a very large price. Just pick up any of their books, and you will learn what a sacrifice it is.

Billy Graham has made a career out of hob-nobbing with those in political power. I lose all respect for anyone who wore Richard Nixon's butt cheeks as ear-muffs.

You lost me at "I really admire Billy Graham."

I suppose many "evangelicals" look at Mr. Graham as a sort of beyond-reproach, untouchable, and yes, infallible religious figure. You know, basically the way the Branch Davidians viewed David Koresh.
