This is a good question...
No, I do not think that prisoners should be mistreated by guards.
If they get sentenced to life in prison...then they live there life in prison for the crime they committed. How much worse could it get living in a tiny cell 23 hours a day?
Justice should just run it's course..

No. They are still human beings.
The prisoner will have been locked up for mistreating society in some way and by mistreating a prisoner a guard (or a system that permits it) would be reducing themselves to the same level.

No. Prison is hard enough as it is. Their punishment is incarceration...that doesn't include getting beat up by staff everyday. All of you people that say that incarcerated individuals should be mistreated are sick. Go visit a state prison, or local jail and see what kind of hell hole it is. Or better yet, get to know someone that used to be locked up. They're not animals you know...they're people just like you and me.
Its disgusting to me how some people have absolutely no warmth. If you've never set foot in a correctional facility or worked with convicts, then you have no room to talk.

No they are not to mistreat inmates what so ever. If this is happening, then the inmate needs to file a greivance, and then an investigation will be conducted, inmate harrassment happens all the time. If you want respect you got to give respect that's the way it works in that kind of enviroment. The greivance proccess can go all the way up to trial jury if it needs to. I strongly urge the inmate to file a greivance with there caseworker in the prison. I have seen this type of behavior and I just wanted to smack that Officer for doing a such thing. It's wrong!

I see that some people say sure, but what if the person is in prison for defending his children, or family? What if the person is incarcerated for not paying fines? I do not think a person should be mistreated because he/she is incarcerated. Should a female prisoner be raped by a male guard just because she is a criminal? NO!

No two prisons or guards are the same. But if you're talking about a prison full of hardened criminals, it is a fact of life inside. Yes or no is irrelevant. It just is.

No people are still people. Cruel and unusual treatment is supposed to be illegal. GW thinks it's OK to torture whoever he likes because they might be a terrorist so I guess legally prisoners can be mistreated as they often are. Read Live from Death Row by Mumia Abu-Jamal. See if you think the way he and other prisoners are treated should be allowed. No one deserves to be tortured. We all need to stop playing God, seeing as how none of us are any good at it. Peace.

That depends on your definition of mistreatment. Should they be physically beaten? No. Should they be sexually assaulted? No. Should they be denied meals? No.
That said, I do not feel that prison should be a comfortable place. Television should be limited, not the federally mandated cable. Meals should be nutritionally sufficient, and charged to the inmates. Work should be required. Every minute of their days should be regimented. Prison or jail should be a place no one ever wants to return to, not a haven for people who want free room and board, at my expense.

Never, under any circumstances. Guards are ONLY that, guards. There to keep the prisoners locked up, and prevent escape, riot etc. Guards are not judge or jury and they have no right to treat anyone badly.

Define mistreated. They definitely should not be afforded the rights that non-criminals have. They shouldn't be pampered and have the amenities that some poor Americans don't have like cable t.v.,weight rooms,Magazines, games, etc.
