A doctor gave me meds i was allergic to ( he knew i was allergic to them and did it anyway). Whats worse is the pharmacy let me purchase them as well. I broke out in terrible hives , face swollen the whole thing. I had to go to the hospital it was severe. I think the doctor should be held responsible. My out of pocket expence is over 700.00. I still have hive after treatments. Anyone have any advice? By the way i didnt know about this drug because it's calsified in the same family with a different name.

The pharmacy and MD only knows if you are allergic to a medication, if you tell them. The pharmacy has a patient profile, and it will state if the patient has a drug allergy. Most drug families have several members.
If one states, he/she is allergic to tetracycline, I would be cautious about doxycline, monocycline, etc because they are in the same family. Sulfa allergies are bad because the sulfa moiety, shows up in many difference drug families.

The doctor should have notified you about what it can do, and if not, I am sure it is required as a doctor to tell you. If the doctor looked at your record, and KNEW it was similar, or the same thing, he shouldn't have gave it to you. Otherwise, you should sue! Or atleast never go to that doctor again.

No. If YOU knew you were allergic to them, then WHY did you take them?? Why didn't you say something to the doctor when he handed you the prescription?

Take responsibility. You need to ask the doctor....Ok, I am allergic to________, is this medication anything like it or related to it? If he says no then you ask the pharmacist. I'm allergic to penicillin and I have had doctors try to give me Augmentin before. No, no, no.

malpractice. but you wouldnt really win anything if you were to take your doctor to court. if you did get a lawyer and file a suit against him, his malpractice insurance would just settle with you for like 2500usd its called a nusience fee. its not like you died or anything. sucks that it happened but its all a part of life
