It really depends what sort of holidays you like but travel is so easy these days why not get out a world map and put a pin in it. That said, I'd start with more popular tourist destinations so you can ease yourself into the culture shock. ie somewhere in Europe before heading to the likes of China! Why not buy one of those 'top 100 destinations' books that are so popular at the moment to help you decide

I did a world trip and it was the most amazing experience i think ive ever done! i live in ireland so started off in New york, then got a coach to boston. from there flew to LA and on to Hawaii. Hawaii is great, did an island tour of oahu, but if i were u go island hopping! then went on to fiji, stayed at mana island resort, so amazing n if u cant afford to stay on the resort they have a lil place for the backpackers. from there i went to New zealand and stayed around Auckland.Fab for its harbour and the nightlife is electric. go to Rotorua about 3 hours away, its a volcanic area n stinks cuz of the sulphur, there is geysers there and u have to visit hot water beach, the water all along the coast is so hot cuz of the volcanic activity so ppl make jacuzzis for themselves! then i went to Australia, did all the east Coast, sydney, melbourne, Brisbane and Cairns. make sure u go to Cairns, go scuba diving along barrier reef and white water rafting.go up into the mountains in the cable car n buy a didgeridoo! then i went to Thailand. then home :(
It was an incredible 4 months. totally recommend it. last yr went to alaska. amazing there too. go to tiny place called homer four hours frm anchorage an catch a boat out to the town of seldovia. theres 300 ppl that live there and is fab to go bear hunting fishing etc. say hi to the pollacks for me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! all the Best hope uve a better idea now :)

I would recommend Cairo, Egypt. The Great Pyramids in Egypt is the only world wonder left, and has such soul-stirring and genuine Egyptian pieces dating back to thousands of years. It is such a clandestine and momentous journey - a blast from the past. Although prices to travel to this country are a bit costly, the country has so much to offer and is worth the price

I think I'd take a look at the World Heritage Site list http://whc.unesco.org/pg.cfm?cid=31 and plan around the list. I'd try to go overland as mush as possible so I could change plans at the last minute as I meet other travellers.

If I go around the world I'd just keep going, I'd stop for a while and take in the culture but when I get bored I'd move on until I'd gone full circle.

i would start in argentina and ride a bike from there all the way to alaska and then cross the bering strait when the water is solid in february and then get on the trans siberian railroad to europe and finally cross the english channel in that tunnel and then fly home to the us
