Matthew 7:15
15"Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves. 16You will recognize them by their fruits. Are grapes gathered from thornbushes, or figs from thistles?
(By their fruit- Do they have the fruits of the Spirit? Are they following God's word, and abiding by it?)
1 Timothy 6:3
If anyone teaches a different doctrine and does not agree with the sound words of our Lord Jesus Christ and the teaching that accords with godliness,

To answer your question directly, you need to read the Bible for yourself. Dont listen to anyone, even me. But the Bible does tell us the way and the only way to detect any false religion, or to simply know if something is of God or not, is to KNOW His word, and check all against it. So, if you learn something and it can be proved with study, by the Bible, accept it. If it against the Bible in any way, its not of God. Example. Evolution vs creation. God tells ue He created us. WE dont have to get all that, but it helps if we do. So, when evolution comes in and tells us something different, we know its false, no matter what so called scinece says. In 1 tim 6:20, it says to beware of any science, knowledge that opposes God, because it is false.
The Bible is Your only source, period. We dont need any other books to prove the Bible. Other books can be helpful in expalining things, but be careful thre too. check it all against scripture.
As far as false religion itself, again its scripture. And, God tells us clearly, the only way to HIM is thru His Son JEsus Christ. We must accept that Jesus died for us on the cross, and accept Him as our personal saviour, and desire to live as He lived, and tell the world about HIM. To think as HE thought, pure, live Holy Obedient lives to God, and we must even pray to God, thru Jesus. not my opinion, thats what BIBLE says. so, if any religion doesnt say to accept Jesus, it is FALSE. BIble clear on that. Alla wont do. Budda wont do. unless you deceide you choose to not believe the Bible, and that is your choice. But remember, God says Jesus is the only way. Read this for yourself. One way I learned the most is thru word studies. Get a word, whatever the word, such angel, look up all you can on that word, and study. goes together like a puzzle. and read a Psalm or a Proberb every day, points to wisdom. Seek it and you will find it. Believe it will come, and it will. Claim those promises of God as your own, and truth is coming faster than you will believe it. I pray for you in your journey for truth, and I am so thrilled to hear when someone like you is asking intelligent questions and trying to find TRUTH for themselves. Jesus is coming soon. Be ready. God bless you in your search.

2Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is--his good, pleasing and perfect will. (Romans 12)
And hold everything up in light of Scripture....

It says the Holy Ghost will teach us all truths, so I'd say the best way is by the spirit.

1 John 4
1 Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world. 2 Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God: 3 And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world. 4 Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. 5 They are of the world: therefore speak they of the world, and the world heareth them. 6 We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error. 7 Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. 8 He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love. 9 In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him. 10 Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. 11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another. 12 No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and his love is perfected in us. 13 Hereby know we that we dwell in him, and he in us, because he hath given us of his Spirit. 14 And we have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Saviour of the world. 15 Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God. 16 And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him. 17 Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world. 18 There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love. 19 We love him, because he first loved us. 20 If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen? 21 And this commandment have we from him, That he who loveth God love his brother also.
