I agree that it's probably thrush, but do NOT give her antibiotics.

Completely unnecessary, that's like putting a cast on a cut that really just needs a little band-aid!

It will take a bit of work to clear it up, but antibiotics are not a solution. They create more problems than they solve.

Go to your grocery story and buy a couple of small containers of yogurt. Check the ingredients, and make sure it contains ACTIVE CULTURES. NO artificial sweeteners or colour. Plain is best, but if you must, HONEY is the safest sweetener.

Give her some after every meal and drink. Even if she's lactose intolerant, yogurt is absolutely fine because yogurt contains what her body needs to digest lactose.

Don't feed her the yogurt straight from the container though, always use a clean spoon to dish out the yogurt into whatever bowl you're going to serve her from.

The object is to treat the thrush with the yogurt, when children have thrush you just coat their mouth with yogurt (which is why you give her some after every meal and drink) and it should clear up.

If it persists, clean well (or sterilize) any rubber nipples or soothers that are coming in contact with your daughter's mouth.

Also, avoid giving her refined sugar (small amounts of honey and maple syrup instead, she's over a year), yeast (thrush) thrives on refined sugars.

People should not be running so easily to antibiotics, they are the VERY last resort, but unfortunately pharmaceuticals are one of the tools doctors are able to use.

The reason for buying a couple of small containers of yogurt is that if the thrush (from her mouth) gets into the yogurt (be careful not to redip a spoon that has been in her mouth or anything, except of course in the same feeding), it will contaminate the yogurt, so just throw it out and start with a fresh container.

Good luck! I hope you get it under control. Oh, one more thing, you should add a spoonful of yogurt to her bottle. Are you giving her fruit juice? I wouldn't advise it, but if you do, just once a day or so, and make sure it has no sugar added, just pure juice.

Thrush

Treatment Overview

Thrush is a yeast infection that can develop in the mouth and throat and on the tongue. Thrush is most common in newborns, infants, and older adults, but it can occur at any age. In healthy newborns and infants, thrush is usually not a serious problem and is easily treated and cured.

Except for the mildest cases, you should treat thrush to keep the infection from spreading. Antifungal medications, which inhibit the growth of yeast, are the standard treatment for thrush. Thrush is most commonly treated with medications that are either applied directly to the affected area (topical) or swallowed (oral).

* Your or your child's general health, the severity of the infection, and the persistence or recurrence of the infection determine how the medication will be given.
* Infants are nearly always treated with topical antifungal medications. Topical medications don't work as well in adults because they have bigger mouths and it is hard to cover the affected areas.

It's thrush tongue. The doctor will prescribe you something for it. We were also told to boil bottles/nipples, pacifires every day until it clears up, then you can do it less after it's completely gone. It's like a yeast infection in the mouth. With the medication, it will go away. Our son got this as well.
