So they can make the Bible seem to say what they want it to. I get so mad when people do that.

Point A: if the Bible is infallible, why does context matter? Aren't the words perfect as they are?
Point B: It was written over a thousand years ago (some parts 2000 years , some 1800 years, some 1500 years) by a tribal society with different norms and issues and problems than the world is seeing today. The whole thing is out of context!

I agree.
That is why we should always consider ALL the various passages dealing with any given subject, to see how the Bible harmonizes as a whole.
After all, it says that "ALL Scripture is inspired by God" not just the part we agree with.
Taking Scriptures out of context has led to much false dogma, including, but not limited to:
Immortality of the Soul;
Eternal torture in hell fire;
Earth to be destroyed;
Trinity; and so much more.

Many, many people, and preachers quote the Bible without reading it for themselves, based on doctrine they have learned and not based on the actual Bible, without really studying the Bible to knowing the meaning of the surrounding text and passages, etc. Bible context is extremely important!

Gospel According to Saint Luke
Chapter 8
5 The sower went out to sow his seed. And as he sowed, some fell by the way side, and it was trodden down, and the fowls of the air devoured it.
6 And other some fell upon a rock: and as soon as it was sprung up, it withered away, because it had no moisture. 7 And other some fell among thorns, and the thorns growing up with it, choked it. 8 And other some fell upon good ground; and being sprung up, yielded fruit a hundredfold. Saying these things, he cried out: He that hath ears to hear, let him hear. 9 And his disciples asked him what this parable might be. 10 To whom he said: To you it is given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God; but to the rest in parables, that seeing they may not see, and hearing may not understand.
11 Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God. 12 And they by the way side are they that hear; then the devil cometh, and taketh the word out of their heart, lest believing they should be saved. 13 Now they upon the rock, are they who when they hear, receive the word with joy: and these have no roots; for they believe for a while, and in time of temptation, they fall away. 14 And that which fell among thorns, are they who have heard, and going their way, are choked with the cares and riches and pleasures of this life, and yield no fruit. 15 But that on the good ground, are they who in a good and perfect heart, hearing the word, keep it, and bring forth fruit in patience.

By taking anything (the bible, the qu'arn, speeches, gossip) and putting it out of context, we can easily twist it to mean what we want it to mean. And others who don't know what was originally said, will believe a lie. To put it into context would only show that the lie is a lie.

its part of human nature, partly unintentional, partly lazy
its tough because people often have a prior conception or preference and instead of studying the scriptures to draw out truth (exogesis which is good) they impose their prior ideas and preferences into it (isogesis which is bad)
try and learn by the example of some good mature Christians
I like http://www.desiringGod.org for material but they are hardly the only good sourse of good teaching

anything that someone says about the bible will seem out of context
because everyone has a personal interpretation of it
this doesnt mean one is right and the other wrong though

It happens a lot, sadly. I think its because they want to suit themselves, and make themselves "feel" better....also Satan does this- causes this to happen so that they will not believe the ACTUAL truth of God's word...It is so crucial to stay in context of scripture.
I pray all the time the Lord will teach me and show me HIS truth by not letting me go out of context- no matter what it is He is teaching me, that my ears are going to hear it....

It works both ways, when Christians take verses from the Qur'an out of context.
Seriously, how much of the Qur'an have YOU read?

It's called picking and choosing. Whatever suits them, they do.
Also, don't forget, as Christians we are all at different faith levels, the Lord deals with us at whatever level we are at.
Just be patient and don't wig out, and please, always ask Jesus what he really thinks about scripture, know in your spirit what he is saying to you, not worrying about what others are saying. It will drive you bonkers, and just pray for them :)
