In other questions I've asked about religion I've been told - the bible tells truths, test it. Then someone tells me about prophecies, etc. Now I don't read the bible, for good reason, but wouldn't you say that anything vague enough can prophesies? Look at Horoscopes, if you read every horoscope with faith that there is some truth to it...not only does the one under your own sign have validity in your life...but so do all of the others. A true prophecy would have to entail actual dates, times, names, and occurances. For me to believe in a horoscope it would have to say...today you pick numbers 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, and 30 and you will win 4.5 million dollars and 7 cents. The bible is just a way that people, especially children, formulate a basis for religion. It's an ancient Mother Goose, morals, etc. Give me your take on this idea.

Oh btw, 'you're a moron'...yeah real open minded guys. If you actually believe that the stories in the bible are anything BUT stories to teach people lessons...then I'm not the moron, but OOOP look there's one in the mirror when you peer into in.

Agh, the question wasn't 'do you believe in horoscopes?' Plus, if you believe that horoscopes are simply written by man...what do you think the bible just magically appeared? It too was written by man, or many men, and/or changed and added to over time to suit the needs of various religions. I could easily say that god is guiding the pen while I write, you'd think I was a nutjob right? So why then take the bible so literally? The stories, or similar, may have happened, but their interpretation is now something that we all base our religion on??

Absolutely! My personal favorite "bible prophecy" is that "there will be people who will not believe"......DUH!!!
I'm really amazed sometimes at what passes for "truth"

It is interesting to me that in your first few sentences, you express that you don't read the Bible. It seems difficult to me that you could formulate an opinion about the Bible without ever reading it. Try reading it, or any other religious books for that matter. Before I became a Christian, read many books and studied many religions and belief systems. The Bible makes sense, and more and more as I read and understand it more.

DON'T BE AFRAID! Take a chance and read with an open mind. What is so hard to believe about a God who put everything together in such a perfect fashion, then gave you a book to help you understand how His system works? You expect your boss to tell you how things work on your job, you expected your teacher to tell you how things work in his/her classroom... Why not God? Think about it... really!

btw, I've been given prophecy that was definitely NOT general or vague. You don't have to believe a prophecy when given.. you can test it. A prophet is a true prophet when what he says comes to pass.

.....For illustration, rabbits do not bite their cud... In contemporary English, animals that ‘bite the cud’ are referred to as ruminants. They infrequently bite their meals whilst first eaten, however swallow it right into a detailed belly wherein the meals is in part digested. Then it's regurgitated, chewed once more, and swallowed into one more belly. Animals which do that comprise cows, sheep and goats, they usually all have 4 stomachs. Coneys and rabbits don't seem to be ruminants on this contemporary feel. However, the Hebrew word for ‘bite the cud’ comfortably way ‘elevating up what has been swallowed’. Coneys and rabbits cross by way of such an identical motions to ruminants that Linnaeus, the daddy of contemporary class (and a creationist), in the beginning labeled them as ruminants. Also, rabbits and hares coaching refection, that is very nearly the identical precept as rumination, and does certainly ‘carry up what has been swallowed’. The meals is going correct by way of the rabbit and is handed out as a detailed variety of losing. These are re-eaten, and will now nourish the rabbit as they have got already been in part digested. The Hebrew phrase is query is NOT designated to the method of regurgitation; this is a word of common motion. It isn't an errors of Scripture that ‘chewing the cud’ now has a extra restrictive which means than it did in Moses’ day. Indeed, rabbits and hares do ‘bite the cud’ in an much more designated feel. Once once more, the Bible is correct and the sceptics are incorrect.

I believe the bible and I believe the whole 9 yards! Myself it is so hard for me to understand why people DON'T. I am not one to go to church real regular but I do read the bible and I listen to different ministers on TV and radio when I don't attend church. Everything in the bible is for the GOOD and that is what we need so much more of. When I have had so much stress and despair at times everyone of those things turned out to be the best things in my life, that is how God is, he knows what you need, you may not want what he is giving you but it turns out the BEST when he is in control!

Some prophecies are vague, but God does give detailed ones also.

In the Old Testament people were to pay attention to what a person speaking for God (as a prophet) said. If what they said came to pass then you knew they were sent by God.
But if it did not come to pass they you knew that they were a false prophet and they were to be stoned (I think). That way people would be careful not to pass off their ideas as what God wants.

Deuteronomy 18:14
for these nations, which you are about to dispossess, listen to fortune-tellers and to diviners. But as for you, the LORD your God has not allowed you to do this.

Isaiah 2:6
[ The Day of the LORD ] For you have rejected your people, the house of Jacob, because they are full of things from the eastand of fortune-tellers like the Philistines, and they strike hands with the children of foreigners.

Jeremiah 27:9
"So do not listen to your prophets, your diviners, your dreamers, your fortune-tellers, or your sorcerers...."

-However I believe the Bible is the Word of God- and horoscopes are man made to please man. When it is the Word of God that stands forever- everything else will perish.

Isaiah 40:8
The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God stands forever."

-Amen!

Perhaps you should actually read something, the Bible for example, before you start falsely philosophizing.
